The first test between England and Sri Lanka in Manchester starts tonight.

England- Lawrence, Duckett, Pope (C), Root, Brook, Smith, Woakes, Atkinson, Potts, Wood, Bashir.
Stokes out with a hamstring injury while playing in the Hundred and Crawley broke his finger in the third test against the Windies.

Sri Lanka- Karunaratne, Madushka, Kusal Mendis, Mathews, Chandimal, Dhananjaya de Silva (C), Kamindu Mendis, Jayasuria, A. Fernando, V. Fernando, Rathnayake

SL batting first.

Mathews Shoulders Arms and is plumb LBW, that's a shocker. SL 3/6, lost 3/0 oh boy.

And here I am thinking this will be a more even contest with SL having a decent batting line up, Karunaratne, Mathews, Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva all average over 40 from 50+ tests each.

Interesting last 80 minutes played in bad light.

Last 15 overs of SL innings they faced the spinners and the 4 over Engl faced also from spinners due to bad light.

Cudos to both captains for playing on after umpires had suggested they call it quits early

Gotta love the light metres these days, they place them on the top of the stumps at either end to get a reading :shock:

When I read that and watched the highlights this morning I thought it wasn't the worst result for SL having to open with spin, they're at least forced to try something different to counteract Bazball.

Poor Chandimal would of never expected the delivery he got on a day one English wicket.

Rain in Manchester and Sri Lanka had been building a lead, Mendis (90*) and Chandimal (57*) have put on 85 and SL lead by 153, currently 6/275.
