AFL Round 23

Talk on the national game

Its a big enough rivalry without all the fake promotion stuff, just let the 120mins of footy twice a year speak for itself imo, doesn't need anything else.

Rachele needs to learn how to execute some fundamental skills, like a ground ball, instead of his next celebration occupying his head. At this rate he won't see out his current contract.

If he could actually walk the walk as well, fair enough, have a bit of a crack and let your footy do the talking. However, this bloke is a below average player at best so he should be concentrating on getting a kick first and if he does happen to snag a few in a showdown, that's the best way to give it to the opposition.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

100%^^^^^^

The Hawthorn group looks like the celebrating is bonding a bunch of young lads together where Rachele celebrating goals looks like its just about getting more me, me, me time.

I agree with most of this post, however he is a better than average player that hasn't grown up yet in my opinion.

Id have him sit with Rory Sloane for his game reviews.
Show him some of his (Sloane's )selfless efforts and hope to Christ something rubs off on him.

Otherwise he's trade bait.

What do you mean by "bar Ginnivan"?

As for Rachele, he's just a young dumb bloke, he had 10 disposals and 3 of them were clangers, his best footy is very good but it's few and far between, not to mention that he absolutely shits himself when there's a contest.

Ginnivan is the only one of the Hawthorn lot, that I've seen, who gives it to the opposition crowd. The rest of them are just celebrating with each other.

I'd like to think, as a Hawthorn supporter, that if the team had not been on such a great roll, that the rehearsed goal celebrations, wouldn't even be a thing. I doubt we would be seeing these if we were only in front, in a game by a nose, and sitting 14th on the ladder... the celebrations are a product of the success, not a product of imaginary success.... or the need to be some psuedo tough guy. The bloke jumps at his own shadow.

I hope to see some goal celebrations this September. If we do, we are on the right path.

Oh, I only seen him give it to the Collingwood faithful that one day when he tore them a new one.

Chol seems to be loving it.

I love how it's a group of kids gelling together, having fun together and enjoying the journey together as a group, they're a very likable group.

Obviously to a lesser degree but I've captained, coached or both over a dozen cricket premierships, my main focus pre-match was about enjoying what you do and the mateship that comes along with it, it's a great foundation for success.

Would've been six but good bloke factor he got a week off it.

Nice little tease for port to appeal (lawyers win), media click bait etc etc.

And the appeal will get kicked out and see ya later Dan Houston back to Melbourne.

Houston stated that he would be crushed if he missed the GF.

Well Dan, you’re not going to be on your Pat Malone, the rest of your team mates will miss the GF with you. :YMPEACE:

By the way, what a completely stupid thing to say, as if the tribunal is going to care how he feels if he misses the GF, it was totally irrelevant.

It’s 4 games plus 1 under the matrix. 6 games less 1 is the wrong context.

You can bump. It’s legal. But if you do a legal act yet the outcome is a concussion you get games.

It’s a MESS.

The rules allow you to do something only if you exercise your newfound “duty of care” each and every nanosecond.

A police investigation into Matt Crouch flicking the hat off of some buffoon giving the crows a spray as they go down the race after the game?!

We have reached peak levels of stupidity.

**also peak levels of piss-weakery if the port bloke has actually instigated the investigation!

Not sure why he was out doing any media during showdown week. Surely he wasn't the one to be in the media this week.

Nick's came out and defended him saying they (radio hosts), just sit them down and have a chat for 20mins, and things get taken out of context.

FFS Nick's, why was he there in the first place???

That was strange.

There is definitely a disconnect between the laws of the game stating a bump is legal yet the interpretations the tribunals especially in incidents where there is no high contact.

With that said i can completely understand why the AFL is as strict as it is. We all know the damage caused by concussion. Then the most irking one for me is when people say 'todays players are soft etc'. We know when it comes to car crashes its the size and speed that does damage, its no different on a football field. 90% of footballers these days are 6ft monsters who run like the wind with barely an inch of fat on them, their not smoking darts at half time etc. Even Houston is 6ft 1, 88kg (apparently) and would have body fat % under 10. His a machine!

Personally i think we are now at a point in the game where the AFL just needs to start cutting the 'grey areas' out. Potentially the only answer is that the bump is illegal and that tackling is the only legal action when 'attacking' a player with the ball. It would take a generation to come to fruition and maybe that would happen naturally anyway. Do juniors practice bumping, cant say ive seen our juniors practicing it?
