They need to preselect some leadership talent now even if it means not preselecting incumbent members, many of whom just simply lack enough CDF..

On the matter of Tom, the reality is he is a clever, competent and cunning politician who the libs have no answer for. They would kill to have someone with his nous in the party.

I used to really not like him but ever since he's been Mali's no.2 he's changed his ways slightly & made himself a better politician for the party.

He is clever, competent and cunning, he's also extremely driven, staunchly loyal and knows exactly where he can best serve the party and doesn't let his own ambition hinder the greater good. Something else the Libs could only hope for.

My tip regarding Gardiner was off. Did not run in the end.

Said in his press conference he did not undermined Spiers.

Take that at face value. If Spiers says or proves otherwise then he is only keeping the seat warm.

Tarzia is just the sacrificial lamb for the next expected election loss. Whilst others are keeping their powder keg dry, he just went for it because in normal circumstances he’d have no business being anywhere near the leadership.

I sort of feel sorry for him, especially if he really believes that the Libs will win the next election.

I'm not so sure about that.
He has a fairly healthy ego

IMO, Gardner was never going to win it.

Tarzia won't still be the leader in 2026.

I reckon he might be, simply because chalking up an election loss as leader is hardly something to be coveted. Can't see anyone really wanting the job until they're back in a vaguely winnable position.

In some respects the Liberals are in a worse position than the ALP after losing office in 1993 and being reduced to ten members in the lower house. The ALP at that time at least had the benefit of factional warfare amongst the Liberals on prominent display by about this far into the term.

Malinauskas isn't Greek - the name is Lithuanian. His paternal grandparents were Lithuanian and Hungarian, and Irish on the mother's side, according to Wikipedia.
