Quite gobsmacking that they think everbody else's interests are aligned with theirs

I bet the good honest folk at Newscorp couldn't wait to publish that

What that does is it drives the economy at Adelaide Oval because if they’re both performing, more people turn up and that money flows back into community support and the SANFL.

Stop blaming SANFL because both AFL clubs have won **** all for 20 years.

No shit it would drive more income, but they compete in a comp that the chances for success are minimal. Winning the lottery would drive extra income for the state.but guess what ?

Hasn’t gather round driven more income without sacrificing SANFL. Still not enough ??

Whats next we shut down all ammo and country leagues so the sole focus is you. Start to tax any profitable non-afl club so you get more income to win a flag.

Taking away SANFL players from their clubs doesn’t solve a thing. The Best thing for the SANFL is when port/crows don’t make the finals.
We get full coverage and better crowds at our finals series.

Do we go out and sabotage due to this ???? Self indulgent ****.

They should have nothing to do with the league

Dear Matthew

I 100% agree the current model is not working with respect to your players and the broader interest of SA Football should be paramount.

If it’s success you want for your AFL franchises (and greater $$$ returns for SA football) I know of a model that worked and resulted in four GF appearances, three Premierships four additional preliminary final appearances and two preseason competition finals.

Regards

Am Bays

Ps you know it makes sense! And it gives Port a better connection to their community….

PPS your AFL players will learn how to compete
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

You can’t use the SANFL as an excuse all the time. Take responsibility instead of shifting the blame as per usual. The Power and the Crows have been quite successful in the SANFL. Port Power come off as sore losers, I wonder if you’d actually won one of those grand finals you’ve played in since becoming a reserves side if you’d still be whinging as much as you are now. Port Power don’t give a stuff about the SANFL or South Australian football. If your list management was better and you had a decent coach maybe you could bring more people to Adelaide Oval too! Instead you’d like to destroy a competition that’s been going for 100+ years by rigging it so you can finally win something again. It’s not our fault you’re a small fish in a big pond now. Hardly ever hear the Crows complain, they drive more people through the turnstiles than Port Power ever will, even when they suck.

Wasn’t the move to Adelaide oval suppose to fix this ?? So the uplift in revenue Adelaide oval has provided still isn’t enough ?? Even after gather round ??

Take responsibility PAFC. Not our fault you are shizenhousen

Couple of points.

1. It is a long bow to draw to suggest that loosening the rules regarding the reserves teams are going to lead to greater AFL attendances and revenue from Adelaide Oval.

The changes Port are after may make their reserves side more competitive in the SANFL (as an aside, they've been a fairly strong minor round team over their ten-season history in the SANFL - like the AFL team, their only problem has been an allergy to cut-throat finals victories).

However, that doesn't necessarily translate into a significantly stronger first XVIII when weighed against other factors.

Even if there is some positive impact at AFL level, all sides have up and down years and attendances for Port and the Crows don't fluctuate that wildly.

I expect the easing of restrictions to have a marginal, at best, impact on revenue, and again there's a long chain of things that have to happen for that to be the case.

And that's not taking into account the detriment to the SANFL competition by further bending over to the AFL sides.

2. The same argument was made back in 2013 before the reserves sides entered. The new setup sure as hell hasn't helped the Crows and Port perform better.

Of course, I expect the spineless management of the SANFL to jump at any opportunity to ingratiate themselves further with the AFL sides.

Nah the intent of what Richardson is saying is correct two successful AFL franchises is good for SA Footy as success = bums on seats = more revenue on game day for the Crows and Port and SMA which based on revenue from beer and food sales at AO goes to the SANFL. Commercial revenue goes to the clubs outside of specific SANFL and SACA commercial revenue at AO.

So a successful crows and Power are good for SA Footy as a whole.

However to link The AFL clubs success to the current reserves set up is tenuous at best when there are so many other factors at play such as draws, soft caps, skill sets of the development and club coaches.

As I’ve said if you’re looking at success outcomes there was a model that whilst not perfect worked pretty well for both our AFZl franchises compared to the model they thought was best 12 years ago.

Yeah, their crowd component has gone from 5 to 10, on a good day and in good weather

Port have lost track of their argument as it’s changed so much over time … just throwing spaghetti against the wall now.

Stamped their feet and threatened to leave the SANFL but forgot to check with the AFL who have no intention of setting up a national AFL Reserves comp anytime soon.

To link the returns for the SMA on Adelaide Oval revenue on SANFL player top-ups is hilariously laughable, but lapped up and parroted by the Kool-Aid brigade.

Just be grateful that you’re still a going concern because you have no ability to be without massive bailouts, initially by the SANFL, who you tried to send broke, and now the AFL.

Again, the Kool-Aid brigade swallow the fanciful notion that their club have turned their finances around by the brilliance of the Board and President, when anyone can peel away the covers to see that any debt reduction has been largely financed by bailouts and welfare.

The SANFL can’t survive without us the Kool Aid brigade say, we made the SANFL what it is, or they only made money in the glory years before the AFL because of us.

No, you were just a part of the SANFL, just like Sturt, Norwood, West and North were and still are. To think that you’re better than everyone else is the height of arrogance.

Despite what you think, you are not a football club anymore, you’re a corporate entity in a corporately run business, albeit a fairly ordinary one both on and off the field.

You don’t belong in the SANFL anymore, for the many reasons previously mentioned. You can’t have completely different rules between the AFL and SANFL clubs in the same competition, it hasn’t and won’t ever work.

Let’s just accept it and move on.

Now, about that threat to leave the SANFL?

Let’s call that bluff, where the faark do you think you’ll go now that the AFL has shut the door on you?
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Not directly to you Booney but about your club and to a lesser extent the Crows, I think most SANFL fans will become ansty if this crap gets worse. Like all the other added concessions since this farce started, they won't wind them back even if you do become way too dominant. It'll be too late then. I hope the Crows and Power will do as they're told. We all know they have no leverage and minimal benefit to the league right now.

How many coaches have Port reserves had since 2014?
Would I be right in thinking this is correct?

Garry Hocking 2014-15
Chad Cornes 2016-17
Lokan 2018, 19, 20*, 21, 22
Goldsack 2023
Hartlett 2024

Do the Adelaide Crows still pay a $400k to SANFL licensee for the Crows reserves?
No recent reports on the net that I can find.
I recall something about being changed a few years back.

Koch on 5aa this morning. Bagging the SANFL again, basically callling "them" liars. Said he cant wait to get out of it. I'd love the sanfl to come out with their reasoning as to why they want to keep the Power reserves in the sanfl. Do they lose afl money? Do they get afl money? I can't see a reason.
