Tanunda

A fresh morning welcomed us and took a while to get feeling in the fingers.
Started 1st group off 10th.
Solid 9. Included winning Long Drive which was surprisingly on the 17th and not the 18th and even more surprising that I ended up holding on.
Get to the 1st. Hit a nice drive. And then subsequently hit a poor wedge that then rolled into bunker...got out and put it on the down slope of the hill over other side of the green...
Other wipe was on a par 3 where the ball went everywhere bar going in.

Course itself into reasonable condition. Some work going on around the course. Played with 3 members and the appraisal about the grounds crew wasnt complimentary....
Greens are a mixed bag, but I didn't mind them as they were on the slower side from what Flaggy offers.

Went out this morning. And got some crap from pro shop...
Only to be advised no comp due to rain and areas where its flooded.
It wasn't that bad.
Funnily enough the guy that gave me crap was out playing at 11am and they were playing comp
Tomorrow morning will be interesting

Matchplay
Flaggy

Bunkers out of play.

Off the first opponent hits onto houses and provisional onto the 8th.
I'm down the middle. Pull 2nd shot near his 4th under trees. But 1 up.
Lost 2nd
Won 3rd he unfortunately duffed a couple chips.
4th he monsters a drive. I put mine in the bunker, free drop but then just made an unforced error and pushed the 6i to the right. He's front edge of green. My 7wood was delightfully hit but also clipped leaves. He struggled on green. Hole Halved.
5th again he monsters a drive to 55m of green and I'd pulled mine left. My 2nd shot was level with his drive
His short game wasn't at his best here and I get the win. 2 up
6th we hit our drives left. Both hit good shots, his was better. He birdies with a good putt from just off green. 1 up.
Water hole from the whites which is 125m he hits front edge pin up the back
My 7wood pin high. 2 up.
8th I win. 3 up.
9th he wins with a nice shot that rolls down off the back hill. 2 up.

Back 9 fairly uneventful and finished up 5 & 3

Flaggy
Yesterday

Started on 10th.
Started ok.
Hit a drive on 12th that ended up down the bottom past the bunker. I hit it well but never thought it would go that far. Think I got a good bounce just off edge of bunker and just funnelled down.
15pts after 9. Gee the 18th felt extra long, back tees plus a howling head wind..... poor tee shot but managed bogey. On tee i was happy just to score.

Over to the first, which now plays as a 355m par 4. The carpark is blocked off as they work on underground carpark for new clubhouse.
So part of the first fairway is now a carpark....
Back 9 was fairly ordinary. Putting let me down.
27pts

Played at Victor a couple of sundays back, always great fun teeing off the first there, nowhere to hide and you always forget how high you are up there, be interesting to play it in a howling wind. Once down on the flat the course is in great nick, I love the winter grass that has taken over the fairways, allows you take to take beautiful clean divots, not dissimilar to Barnbougle.

Had a triple on the first to warm up but then birdied the 2nd after putting a 7 iron to 3 feet. Had an up and down day after that, included a 7 on the par 3 10th  but overall I was quite pleased with 98 off the stick and 29 points as while the score wasn't great I played some pretty good golf in there.

Keen to get back there again to take it on soon, good deal on crazy golf deals at the moment.

I always loved playing Victor. Yes that opening shot is always good fun. Captained a winning pennant final down there years ago. It was a long pub crawl back to Barker that night!

Flaggy
Saturday

The wind was wild that day my friends, 40kmh breeze and 60kmh gusts
Temperature was fresh.

Players pulling out as the minutes went by all scared by the wind.

Started on 10th. First group off and noone behind us for about 30mins.
First drive ended up landing in between the first big gum on the left.... could only punch out sideways ffs
The rest of that 9 was solid enough for 17pts.
Then onto the first and the game just all seemingly clicked.
22pts including a lovely 7w that led to a birdie on 7th.

Driver behaved itself.
New superstroke grip on the centre shaft putter also seemed to help. Rolled the ball as good as I can.

39pts was enough to win some pro shop cash

Saturday
Flaggy

Slow round  4.5hrs for stableford. Group in front had carts and were 2 holes behind very early
30pts
Vanilla slice central off the tee.

Victor today
A few slices but overall ok, I learnt to adjust to that shape today.
Course I thought was ok given the rain. Someone who was a member there a few years back said that's the worst he's seen it.
Wedges were OK.
Putting was ok, greens were quick.
35pts and 88 off stick. 17th hit a great drive, pin towards the back tier. 8i from 120m just get it to the back and feed it down..... pulled it left ffs walked off 6

Sneaky 9 before dusk at the Vines tonight, 45 off the stick and 19 points, very happy considering I haven't played for 6 weeks, Driver was unbelievable, was actually hitting it in the middle

Greens very fast, fairways showing the wear and tear of the back end of winter but will perk up as soon as the son shines, they are re-doing the irrigation which should be finished for summer, will only improve the course

Not on the front 9, I did hear 16B was in play so I suspect one of the back 9 holes it out of action.

All of the major work is off the fairways

Monthly medal
Flaggy

Played well.
Chip in birdie on 2nd was handy.
Bogeyish golf from there on front 9. Par on 7 and 8.
41 front 9

Back 9 was ok.
Couple putts just ran over edges.
Unforced error on the 12th led to a 7
But held it together somewhat.
45 back 9.

86 off stick.

Vines today.
Monthly medal.
Preparation last night was hindered but slicing into left thumb preparing dinner which been glued up.
Busy day with social groups.
Played fairly good.
Hit 98% of putts off the toe with greens being quick.
Fairways on the good 3 range which meant I could implement my runners.
Bunkers are delightful.
