daysofourlives wrote:I think one thing the AFL could do to help out the umpires alot is penalise any player who doesnt dispose of the ball correctly with a handball or kick. So if the ball is forced out by the tackle its HTB, its a good tackle, it removes the so called difference between dropping the ball and tackle forced it out. In rugby the players dont have any trouble hanging onto the ball.

If they've had prior, then yes, fine with it being HTB/incorrect disposal.

However, a lot of people want any dropping to be HTB, and this I disagree with.
We have to maintain the stance that you want to get the footy. We can't go to a system were you are better off letting the other bloke pick it up first and then you tackle him.

As for the rugby comparison, they can protect the ball cause they don't have a requirement to dispose of it. They've had it, they hold it, and go to ground then play the ball again, where as in AFL that would be HTB as they had prior opportunity, so of course they are trying to keep their hands free, rather than trying to maintain possession of the ball.

How about they just stop changing the ******* rules every year and leave the game alone? They have absolutely ****** it the last 10 years or so.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

sorry but this is the most idiotic thing anyone can say. Its been rooted since 2005 (thanks Sydney) IMO it needs drastic change not these little tweaks here and there, its unwatchable. Even country footy is becoming unwatchable as AFL systems creep into the game. Get rid of rotations to start with.
I dont care what anyone says they should do whatever it takes to bring back 100 goal season Full Forwards, thats what the game needs.

I posed the question in a group the other day, what gets kids excited these days? We had Lockett, Ablett, Dunstall kicking bags of 10 plus, and there was another half dozen or so at any one time also kicking double figures.
The answer i got was possessions, kids get excited about someone getting 40 touches. Theyre easily pleased these days haha but they dont know any better

bring the cap back to 5 a quarter, thats plenty. The game doesnt need to be quicker, why is that what everyone wants? It doesnt equal better football.
Tell me how does Fremantle last week kick 50 points in 110 minutes and then in the last 10 it kicks 25 points? We need that style of football for the whole game not just 10 minutes. Fatigue brings that on. The mind finds it easier to attack than defend when you are stuffed leading to higher scoring

So you want players to be less fatigued and less rotations???

You are complaining about congestion (swans 2005) but don't want the game to be quicker???

Faster ball movement = More goals = More ad breaks = More revenue for broadcaster.

That brings with it higher velocity collisions > more concussions and major injuries.

Shat in their own nest.

When they restricted interchange all that happened was soft tissue injuries to fatigued players late in games. They won't do that again.

The four umpire system has been a massive failure in my eyes and one we are stick with when you consider the administration of the game is being run by people who would sooner jump a six foot high coil of barbed wire with no jocks on rather admit they might be wrong.

Years ago I was taught that if you didn't notice the umpire then he was doing a good job. Are they doing a good job now? No, there are too many of the ****. Umpires from sixty metres away overruling umpires on the spot is bullshit. Umpires making technical decisions to justify their inclusion is bullshit. They are like cops with a quota system. **** IT OFF.

Well said.
The Sullivan decision case in point.
Umpires discussing tactics or reasons why good smart teams win close games and then try and penalise them.
If the balls on the deck the players don't have to pick the ball up for the umpire so Steele did nothing other than piss the lazy umpire off.
The umpiring technical and feel/spirit of the game is at an all time low.

Don't think he realises that the umpires bringing the ball back, that was already downfield, to award Collingwood a point saved them from losing. Imagine if the Crows were afforded such a decision against Sydney last year.

Alastair Clarkson is being investigated by the AFL for using vile language allegedly towards the umpires bench during Saturday's loss to Port Adelaide.
