I had forgotten Garner and Crowe, thinking they were actually different seasons and not the Shield year. (I was thinking the great no-neck Gladstone Small was around the Shield win but couldn't be certain). Now that you've reminded me that the key bowler and the second-best bat of that season were imports, I'm more upset.
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

Gladstone Small was about 1985/86 I reckon.

In 86/87 he returned to play for England in the Ashes.

I reckon you will find that Big Bird played for SA the season after we won the shield, 82-83. 99% positive he was not part of the shield winning squad. Vaguely remember he and Hoggy creating havoc that season, but in the end we just missed on out the first shield final.

Jeff Crowe was part of that 81-82 side however... IIRC he hit the winning runs in that last game?
