There were some very heavy rain events right across the range, so conditions for most of the Senior grades weren't great.

McLaren saw off another challenger in shaking off Compass in the 2nd half to win by 20 points and extend their streak to 30 on the trot
Will be quite a feat if they can make it to 40 and 2 perfect seasons on the trot. Still think it's unlikely but with every win it gets closer to reality.

Yank broke the ice by beating Goolwa/PE in a low scoring encounter. Hard to see either team getting another win for the season and looks like % may decide the spoon.

Willunga maintained a handy break over Victor throughout the match to record a decisive 6 goal win and return to a top 3 spot which will be crucial come finals.

A big last qtr by Myp/Sellicks saw them over run Strath to record the crucial 2 points to retain 2nd spot whilst Strath's finals chances slip further with every loss.

E Bay got over an injury ravished Creek side by 27 points to reverse the round 1 result. 14 - 6 to 10 - 3 was a surprisingly accurate scoreline considering the extremely windy conditions

McLaren almost have the Minor Premiership sewn up and with that are clear flag favorites
Myp/Sell, Willunga, Victor & Compass are all in a battle for 2nd to 5th with the exact order every chance of being clouded until Rd 18
Strath are the only team that could possibly break into the 5 but being a game out plus a sizable % difference it will be a tough task.
Creeks and Bays will finish 7/8 but on their day could still cause some upsets. Creeks will need to get some players back which may not be for a few weeks still.

So close, yet so far for the Pies today against The Advertisers feature Club of the week, highlighted for being undefeated for 600+ days.

Scores level at half time and in front at 3/4 time, the cream rose to the top in the last thought. McLaren kicking five goals to one for another close victory.

Pies taking some big steps ahead in the last few weeks. A big scalp shouldn’t be far away.

It’s happened. After solid outings against Victor, Creeks and McLaren the Pies finally got their big scalp defeating Mount Compass at home.

This was on the back of their worst performance of the year, losing to Yankalilla last week. The Bulldogs have been taking their own scalps this season having beaten Pongy & Willunga already this year with narrow losses against McLaren.

First time GPEFC has beaten Mount Compass since Round 10, 2015. The Dogs went on to defeat the Pies in the Prelim before losing the GF. They then went back to back.

Thankfully for the Bulldogs, they are still in the box seat for fifth position with Langhorne Creek getting up over Strath.

For Goolwa/Port Elliot, it will all be about retaining their recruits and adding another 2-3 for next season and hoping to get some locals back - as mentioned in another post earlier this season, there is 9-10 ex players running around for Victor, might not get any back, but highlights the need to keep locals.

Terrible tipping by myself

Willunga easily over McLaren. Not a surprise there but the margin was 52 points

Compass going down to Goolwa/PE was a HUGE upset and even more so the margin of 48 points is just hard to fathom

Creeks got over their arch rivals in a slight upset by 8 points which keeps 5th spot slightly open tho Compass would still be heavy favorites to stay there.
Creeks where helped by the return by Helyer who gave them an extra much needed presence up forward and Clifford who combined with Derham were outstanding down back quelling Straths scoring opportunites.

The Mudlarks had their expected easy win over Yankalilla who whilst not expecting to seriously challenge would have been disappointed with the huge 123 point defeat

Victor after taking control in the 2nd quarter then did enough to keep E Bay at arms length in the 2nd half to take a crucial 2 points by a 2 goal margin to stay in touch for a double chance come finals

Yes some unexpected outcomes this week.

GPE have shown some good periods of play in earlier rounds so another win wasn’t out of the realms but after losing to Yank last week, I didn’t see it coming against Compass. The quarter by quarter scores indicate GPE had the game on their terms all day. The margin was the biggest surprise.

Strath continued their up and down form against Creeks, who’s win helped gave sides currently in the 5 a bit more security. Both will continue to push those above to earn any wins as the round progresses.

As per my tips after seeing Willunga at home last week I did think they were a very good chance to inflict McLaren’s first loss. The surprise was the apparent ease the running scores indicate they did it with.

Victor got off to a good start with 2 early goals into the wind on a wet night at VH, but Bays then made good use of the wind to control the scoreboard at 1/4 time 4-4 to 3-0.
It was all VH in the second with 5 goals to 0 and it seemed like they would go in with it from there. The 3rd was a very even slog in the wet with both sides managing 2 goals and VH took a 22 point lead into the final term.
Bays slotted 3 quick goals at the start of the last and it was game on with the margin only 3 points. It was a great tussle from then on with one to vh, another to bays, then BOG medal winner Ross held his nerve and kicked a 50m set shot truly in the tough conditions. Another to VH saw the 93 premiership reunion crowd watching on relax a little. But bays kept coming with another goal each before the final siren saw a 12 point win to VH.
Great to see the sides sitting 8 and 9 on the ladder are so competitive and will continue to help shape the final 5.

Match of the Day is Strath v Victor at Strath. Big game for both, Strath needs to win to stay in the hunt for the 5 whilst Victor need the win to stay in touch of the top 3. Victor have the slightly better form and is the tip by 2 goals but a strath win wouldn't surprise.

Mt Compass would still be fuming after their last start shock loss to GPE and will show Yank no mercy at the Kennel. Compass by 71 points

Willunga off the back of ending McLarens 30 game winning streak seem to be putting it together after some early season inconsistency and tho wont be a walkover should get over E Bay at the Bay who are capable but just may not be able to be good enough for long enough. Willunga by 31 points

GPE will be full of confidence after their boil over win against the Dogs but will find Myp/Sellicks a much stiffer task. GPE will certainly have their moments but the Mudlarks look too classy to drop this one. MS by 46 points

McLaren host the Hawks and will be keen to jump straight back on the horse after taking a tumble last start. These 2 played a thriller in Rd 3 where McLaren came from the clouds to snatch the win off the Hawks in the last minute. Creeks have been hit and miss since then with injuries taking their toll.
If Creeks get another 1 or 2 back from the injury list they could push McLaren all the way again. Heard a rumor Centenary medalist ruckman for the Hawks Jack Keynes could be missing for a few weeks as he represents Australia in Gaelic Football at the World Games in Derry - Northern Ireland which will be a blow for them. McLaren by 26 points

With VH having 7 out from the previous game (and 2 SC and 1 B grader stepping up to play their 2nd games for the day) , expectations for a closer game quickly changed with VH dominating the first quarter to be 7 goals to zero up at the first change. Not sure if Strath were similarly hit by changes but Clamp a late out to the crows and Simounds seemingly not fit helped the VH backline who had 4 of the regular 6 out. Overall took up the Ruck reins and dominated around the ground, Wiese staked a claim for a regular midfield role picking up possessions at will and the other ins from the reserves were all good contributors. Strath had the best of the last as the effects of illness and 3 further injuries meaning no bench rotations took their toll on vh but the 10 goal 3/4 time lead was enough to see a 34 point final margin.
Hopefully vh will get some players back for the big game against Pongy this week.

Seems.a number of clubs struggling with injuries FOD.
Creeks already struggling with many key players missing rocked up to McLaren with key Forwards Mitch Cleggett and Helyar both withdrawing on the morning to leave more holes to fill in a do or die clash with the league leaders who reportedly had 3 key players missing as well.
Ruckman Keynes did line up for the Hawks, it's the next 2 weeks he's on Australian Gaelic representative duties in Ireland.
In a real scrappy affair McLaren led the Creeks 3.7 to 3.4 at half time. The game opened up a bit in the 3rd quarter with McLaren threatening to run away with it but the Creeks hung tough to trail by 11 points at 3/4 time. The Creeks cant take a trick atm with them losing Howell for the rest of the match and possibly season with a knee and Jones playing out the last term with a shoulder injury which may also see him out for an extended period as well. McLaren put the issue beyond doubt quickly whilst to the Creeks credit they played it right out kicking the last 3 goals to bring the margin back to 18 points.
Will take a miracle for the Creeks to make finals from here whilst McLaren will certainly need to step it up a few notches if they want to go back to back tho it's hard to be too critical of a team sitting 11 and 1.

E Bay you'd think would be too good for GPE who have shown they can surprise but need to do it more than once to gain credibility. Bays at home by 32 points

Creeks host Yankalilla and welcome back some key players in Matt Tonkin, Kellock, Mitch Cleggett and Helyar but lose Howell & Jones to injury (both possibly for the season to join Perry and Warren) ) and Keynes representing Aust as well as Blackwell representing SA Country in Perth. Creeks won by a whopping 137 points in Round 4 but this time will be a lot less. Creeks by 46

Strath host McLaren and really need the win to stay in finals contention. McLaren arnt travelling anywhere near their best but neither is Strath
Safe bet is to go for McLaren but with no degree of certainty. McLaren by 16 points

Willunga host Mt Compass and the Demons are the form team atm. Compass got the points by a goal in Round 4 but hard to see them repeating that here. Willunga by 28 points

Victor host Myp/Sellicks in a crucial match. Victor lose and i think they can kiss their double chance hopes goodbye.
Hard to tip without knowing the teams ins and outs. Toss a coin and it came down Victor by 2 points

Mt Compass keeping Willunga to just 3 - 7 and smashing them by 74 points is just crazy
This after Compass got hammered by GPE only a few weeks ago

E Bay obliterated GPE by 153 points after kicking a staggering 14 - 7 to nil in the last quarter

Strath are shot for the season. After a misrable 1st half return of only 1 -1 Strath were competitive in the 2nd half tho still went down top McLaren by 58 points

In the crucial game at Victor, after an even 1st half the Roos put their foot down in the 3rd term to set up a match winning lead, going on to win by 22 points and taking over 3rd spot from Willunga !

As expected Yankalilla were much more competitive this time around against the Creeks and never gave up in limiting the Creeks to a hard fought 23 point win

Amazing hey.
GPE lose to Yank in round 10, blow Compass away in round 11 while Yank only manage 1 goal at Pongy. Then Compass beat Willunga (who seemed to be the form side) by 12 goals!

The VH - Pongy game was a hard fought contest in slippery conditions. Pongy scrambled the first major through then VH kicked 3 before quarter time with the wind favouring their end. Pongy pegged back the lead to only one point just after Victor’s Wiese was felled well off the ball. The subsequent altercation after the goal resulted in 2 yellow cards and a split cheek/eye to Victor players and a yellow to the Pongy culprit which was then escalated to a red as they made their way off. Victor managed another goal before half time to take a 6 point lead into half time.
The third was all VH, scoring 5 majors with a tough brand of footy before Pongy scored one of their own leaving a 34 point lead at 3/4 time.
One goal to each team to about the 18 minute mark of the last saw VH in control. Jake Spinks then bobbed up with a couple of quick goals to give Pongy hope but Victor controlled the game from then on to record a 22 point win.

I spoke to a mate that suggested I watch the HappyFM replay of Myponga as we have them soon (it was hard to find, but went to their website in the end), I would say Spinks would be breathing a little easier today for not being sent off with what should have been at least a yellow card Saturday twice. Once he throws a big elbow at a player on the wing right in front of the grandstand at Victor that does just collect (the result wasn't heavy but the intent was horrible), & then in the last 1/4 he runs straight into another's head with his hip in the back pocket, in an intentional act that could have had very serious results. Even the commentators were questioning how he got away with both.

myponga were out there for blood, like lang, smaking people for fun, that's why he got sent off, they play a brand of football like mount compass which is suited for SFL and not GSFL where there coaches are from

1:26 on the video is the elbow.
The bump at 2:15 would be multiple weeks in the afl. I’m an old fart that played when that sort of stuff was pretty regular but that bump was bloody dangerous. Poor Cooper that was on the receiving end was thrown into an advertising sign soon after too at 2:18.
