Mark Cosgrove is yet again in trouble after the first pura cup match.

Cosgrove apparently "showed dissent" after both dismissals where he made 34 and 0.

The first innings Cosgrove was caught at back-pad, and the 2nd dig he was given L.B.W. where he didnt offer any shot.

Never understood the "he padded up he deserved to be out argument". Due to

1) it still has to hit the stumps, its just that getting hit outside the line of off stump isnt an issue
2) The best players in the world leave the ball perilously close to off stump as it is a danger area for edging the ball. Of course they will make the odd error of judgement. if a batsman played every ball that was any possible chance of hitting the stump he would get caught behind so often it wouldnt be funny and wouldnt be a first class cricketer. maybe if they had letthe ball go, D harris would have been in, g manou would have been still in, j borgas would have been in, adcock would have been in etc etc.
It is a simple game made hard by players, but its not so simple you can say il just go out there and hit every ball and not let them go

How far away is he from serious consideration for the ODI team? I thought that in the match he did play, he performed well and was a bit disappointed that he was omitted for the next series (IIRC, he played in one of the last matches in Sri Lanka or Bangladesh before a lengthy break).

What are you expectations for him this season (apart from the KFC and pie eating records! )

Numbers and records over the 30 years I can remember from a kid when John Nash and Rick Darling were opening the batting in Shield games are horrible.

How many walk up rolled-gold Test certainties has SA boasted since Greg went to Queensland and Ian stopped playing?

We all hope Shaun Tait will spend years terrifying opposition bats but he doesn't have to do a lot to beat the last 30-odd years.

Genuine long-time star is Class of one with just Jason Gillespie -- magnificent record. Rock solid legend of Australian test cricket with his results.

Robbed class of one is The great man Boofa -- Horribly underplayed by selectors but did very well when finally got there for an extended period.

Solid for a little while is blokes like:
Tim May -- very strong support to Warney for 2-3 years whenever we played two slows, but never our first-choice spinner.
Greg Blewett -- great start but it went horribly wrong pretty quickly.
Wayne Phillips -- wonderful start but it went pear-shaped again quickly once some clown decided to make him a WICKETKEEPER!!! ffs.
Rodney Hogg -- for a couple of years after a blinding start, but he came from Victoria anyway.

All the others who roll into one like
David Hookes -- in and out from the time he debuted until he got dropped while VICE CAPTAIN!!!!
Andrew Hilditch -- in and out and came from NSW anyway.
Peter Sleep -- never ever consolidated a spot.

It's been horrible for a fair while with the SACAs and they've got off scott free for a long time.

Tassie has more out and out Test stars in the last 30 years than SA -- with just Boon and Ponting.

let's not even talk about WA (rolled gold legends who spring immediately to mind like Lillee, Marsh who vie for Team of the Century), NSW (Waugh, Border, Waugh, Taylor and McGrath all have legend status), Queensland (McDermott, Healy, Hayden awesome records) and the Vics (Warne, Hughes, Reiffel, Jones all great or very good test careers).

Nice one Roger.
That's the thing folks, we've been schiesenhausen for as long as most of us care to remember.
Could ofter grind out first innnings wins at home and the odd outright but we have been a basket case on the road for yonks. At least in the days of Nobes, Hookes, Siddons etc we could post big scores and then hope that May could take a bag on day 4.
Alas, a score in excess of 250 these days is something akin to the Bays kicking more than 10 goals in the dis-Honour years. To get into a position to win you really need to make around 400 in the first dig and go from there. Can you see this side passing 400 this season? Boof would need to make 200 of them for starters.
It's going to be a long season. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that the likes of Cullen and Bailey continue their development and some of the young bats finally get their sh*t together.
