How did one guy get 10/5. Thats amazing. must be pretty good, or the team sucked. We (Fitzroy B Grade) are chasing 372 to win against Betania. I took 3/75 off 15 :D

Well, I was on the receiving end of that 10/5!

It was actually the best bowling figures in 101 years of the association. The previous best was 10/22 by someone in 1932!!!

He wasn't an excellent bowler - I have faced better in this same grade. It was just a mixture of:
 Him (Todd Edwards) bowling very well
 Us having a very inexperienced side (5 were making their debut for the club, including one who had never played cricket before, and another who hadn't played for 30 years!)
 Him bowling on the stumps - 6 of his last 7 wickets were all bowled
 our guys got very nervous facing him and thought he was much better than he was as they knew he was on such a roll (with the inexperience playing a part again)
 Their other bowler was nothing special, thus allowing him to get all 10
 I gave our best batsman out caught behind when he wasn't out  If he had stayed in, we would probably have seen Edwards off, and someone else would have got a wicket or two from somewhere.

So basically, it was a freak occurance and a mixture of everything going right for him on the day!

Greg Hodgkinson is no longer playing for Fitzroy. A few of the B graders last year decided to leave for turf cricket. They are at Golden Grove.

Nothing about that was mentioned at the AGM, so no.

Count me in if there is an over 40s comp

have any of you blokes played against wingfield ? fair dinkum i'v heard of teams not paying the 50/50 decisions but they are the worst side i'v ever seen in 14 years of senior cricket at fairness we bowled 12 overs at them after making a dissapointing 180 they're 1/30 or somthing like that but should be at least 4 for or maybe even 5 for its just a shame to wreck a good game thats all and its also a shame because they've got 4 or 5 good blokes in there team including there captain .

We played them once last year, and there was a minor incident involving some bad language from them, but apart from that they were fine.

Apparently they had a big wedding on one week (who gets married during cricket season? ) and found it too hard to organise a team for the other week too.

Has always been rife in Church cricket funnily enough. I played for around 25 years and it was always the same, just some sides were worse at it than others

Rose park had a massive wedding on and majoriy of their players attended. Apparently they were willing to play a one day match, but Adelaide Lutheran wouldnt come to the party!!

That's not quite the story...This is my understanding of events (although I didn't speak to anyone from Rose Park directly, so I can't guarantee that something wasn't lost in translation)

They originally asked for a one-day game for their A-Grade, but we originally refused because we thought it should be their B-Grade team forfeiting for such reasons, not their A-Grade.

But then after their practice, Rose Park got back to us and said that neither team was able to field a team for either week  , so their only option was to forfeit both games. We would have played a one-day game if this was their only option. This seemed a bit strange to us though, as surely a wedding doesn't last for two weeks?!?

PS I hate weddings - stupid overhyped events that just cause grief for everyone, with this story being yet another example...

you would think that they would be able to find 11 people to fill at least one side, seems very strange set of circumstances of having both sides forfeit. Surely more to it than that, unless of course they all went on the honeymoon as well :D

Rose Park could have fielded two sides (A & B) on the first saturday but not the second saturday as the majority of the players from both sides were going to the wedding. The A grade asked Adelaide Lutheran if they would like to play a one day game on the first saturday but this was not agreeable by Adelaide Lutheran.

Rose Park B grade asked Fitzroy for the same deal (one day game on the first saturday) but Fitzroy could not field a team on the first Saturday. Fitzroy could play a one day game on the second saturday (which clashed with the wedding) so therefore both sides got a draw.

Unfortunately I think something was lost in communication between the two clubs. :( Disappointing as we had guys who were keen to play, but we couldn't give them a game...
