I just watched the incident and there is no way that Gowans can justify the action he took. There is nothing in any of the lead up that warranted any square up but even if there was you don't king hit a player - go toe to toe with him!
We all (including North fans) shuddered in 1991 when Sims belted Simpson and got 12 games and forced the league to bring in a send off rule. I would rate the cowardly hit by Gowans as bad but do do it with 2 minutes to go when your team is up 10 goals shows exactly what sort of arrogance he holds the game in. I have always admired the way both the Gowans play, hard tough, niggling winning football but one of them let himself, his brother and his club down today and I just can't wait to hear the excuses come from some of the dogs fans but get a reality check and watch the replay first and try and justify the king hit - you won't be able to!
As for the talk of Police action - that's rubbish - it was a football incident however unsavoury it may be and let the tribunal dish out at least 10 weeks because if Sims hit on Simpson deserved 12 then this one was about the same so I think 10 it should be at least.
P.S. Some of the Centrals fans in the Corporate Super Boxes at the Southern end above where the North Grog Squad were sitting you also disgraced your club. Spitting down on spectators and throwing coins that could have hit anyone was absolutely disgraceful!

I expect nothing better from those 'Dogs'.

Gowans and Schubert across centrals half forward line, didnt actually see what happened but James ended up on the ground, got up (and i told the people around me to keep an eye on James.) next minute he did what he did.I think this was complete brain fade by him. I honestly didnt feel very good after the incident because i would hate that to happen to anyone on my team, or any team.
People bag the Gowans but this is the first time they have done anything like this.
Chris had nothing to do with it so why people are putting him in this is beyond me.
James should never have done what he did, it was a disgrace really.
When it happened i turned to the people i was with and said this is the last time we will see a Gowans in a centrals jumper.
People can say what they like about the Gowans boys (and they do) but they always give you something to talk about. They have been great for SANFL footy (except for this incident)
Problem is this one incident will over ride a great game by the dogs.
I think 6 weeks is probably about right.

This was another case of the retaliator getting reported. I'm not condoning what he did but think about the circimstances:
The game was well and truely over the dogs were 10 goals up Chris had played a good game and was about to win another flag.
It took a serious action against him to get that riled up!
This must be the first time a Jack Oatey meddalist has been reported in the same game!

Did Chris get reported too?

Go watch the tape - if any incident that occured earlier riled up Gowans then surely he would have done something at the time but there was nothing that Schubert did that would warrant what Gowans did but you keep believing if you so choose.
