Its Diesel then daylight
I hated him then. I hate him now. If not for Shane Mumford he'd still be most despised football villain.
Do we think a bloke like Diesel would actually be any good in modern day football. Would there be a place for solely and in and under type with no leg speed at all.
I actually don't think his football smarts would be enough in modern day footy, he would just get bullied at the ball ups by the likes of 6ft Cripps, Fyfe, Martin, Bontempelli.
Great footballer in his era though.
I think this is the problem with modern footy. Clever but slower players don't (or mightn't) have a role in the game. If these type of players are lost, does it make the game better?
Personally, I don't think he'd make it today because of all the scouting that's done, they'd look past him because he mightn't be able to get to each contest. When he did, he tore it up but nowadays, unless he got fitter and worked on his aerobic fitness he wouldn't get selected IMO.
Carlton rejected him twice in the early 80s for those exact reasons. Then paid massive money to get him 10 years later.
Some things dont change at Carlton
