Yep, and run by a dickhead who worked for the AFL....

Absolute joke.

Gill said the Suns are here to stay for next 10yrs atleast last week. We know that to be true cos if they fold the Suns up, its an admission they were wrong. And the AFL never ever say they made a mistake.

So lets just pray that the Suns get flogged for the next 10yrs.

10 years? Dimitriou said it was a 30 year plan the AFL had in place.

So, Gold Coast will be basically gifted Mathew Rowell and Noah Anderson with picks 1 and 2. Some pundits are saying both are better than Sam Walsh. I doubt they would consider trading either.

The AFL will probably give them an AFLW team next year too.

They can be called The Daughters.

Yep and they're best mates, they're off to the Goldy.

And every club should be doing any underhanded tactic possible to get them both to walk next year

So, the big losers out of the Gold Coast concessions are Melbourne. Considering nobody on this Forum gives a shit about Melbourne, does it really matter?

Difficult to know. Gold Coast isn't the best place to live I wouldn't imagine.

Plus, if you've now got the template of Prestia and Lynch moving on for premierships, it doesn't bode well for them does it?

is it really the club's fault for players wanting to go home or seeking better opportunities?

I think their drafting has been poor and their player development just as poor. Moving on McKenna hasn't proven to be a great decision, they've only gone backwards from there.

I seriously don't know if it's 100% the club's fault.

Absolutely it matters, whether it be Melbourne, Carlton, St Kilda, whoever, their ability to be competitive is being compromised by the AFL to ensure the AFL's expansion child is successful.

Uneducated cynics on here cried out about the Gold Coast being a graveyard for sporting franchises, so too did the far more educated in the media and wider sporting circles, the AFL knew best though.

Of course it’s the clubs fault. GWS and the Suns were given pretty similar concessions to start up and yet GWS is a regular finals contentender whilst the Suns have never even made finals. Sheedy was fairly smart when setting GWS up and they selected some good leaders first and filled their list with kids and were prepared to cop a few years of pain to keep collecting picks and building their list. The Suns went out and wasted their dough on god boy and other club discards which set a garbage culture from the start.

GWS seemed to have developed a good culture and a place people want to be, (despite losing some) including off field positions. And while Gold Coast is a hard nut to crack you could argue Western Sydney is even harder.

Is there anything attractive about Gold Coast for a footballer apart form the lure of $$$$?

GWS - Sheedy, Williams, Cornes, Brogan, Power. All strong characters who had been both at the top and the bottom and knew what it took.

Gold Coast - Bock, Brown, Ablett, Fraser, Krakouer. None of them scream out leadership like the ones mentioned above.

I think the Gold Coast frame of mind plays a part when players get drafted there, they think more of "I'm heading to the Gold Coast" more than "I'm playing AFL footy for the Gold Coast".

The novelty wears off and they wanna head back home.

GWS had it far tougher from the outset, they got smashed in their formative years as they were mainly just a bunch kids having a crack and respecting the level that they were playing.

Their recruiting has been strategic as well as their development of players, even the ones they've lost they have made sure they have covered.
