So Labuschagne Harris Burns S Marsh Renshaw and Handscomb will be fighting for the other two spots. Renshaw probably ranked 6th in that list but as yet none deserve a regular gig.
Will P cannot possibly be selected whilst he is struggling with expectations. He would clearly be even more vulnerable on an overseas jaunt.

My Bad... I didnt even list him and yes he is a better option than all the above listed six. So its Warner along with someone followed by Uzzie Smith Head and Patterson. So Renshaw Bancroft Harris or Burns vying for the final spot.

I like that line-up assuming Warner/Smith have sufficient FC match fitness.batmanbegins wrote:northerner wrote:RB wrote:northerner wrote:The reality is only Trav Head has fully capitalised on his chances this summer. Surely burns gets first go. He just made 180. The team for the first ashes test would be;
Warner
Burns
Khawaja
Smith
Head
Patterson
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

Only thing I'd do would be to drop Starc.
I also think Head is more of a number 6 and Patterson a number 5.

Drop Starc for Richardson? On wkts that offer no movement Jhye struggles. There are many Test batsmen who would hope to not see Starc play. He will play and will have his moments.
