Just pure speculation, however it may soften the blow and make it a touch easier for them.

Crows fans must be absolutely sick of all this, every, single, year.

The club is showing good faith in him but why would you give him an extension when he isn’t playing for 12 months?
Why wouldn’t they wait to see how he goes after the knee recon?
