I heard the other night that Josh Hoffman has done his knee in the other nights 20/20. Would be a huge out for Port.

Don't know much about Holder at all, just they were talking him up before he came in Round 3, not sure he has been as good as they were hoping.

Fair start to the season for Patrick Page. 600 runs in the main competition already.

He a chance to take Cooper's spot in the Shield team? Or maybe sneak into the team if Trav is playing Aussie one dayers.

What about Conor McInerney from Woodville? Has 515 runs from 6 hits (Page's 600 is from 10) with 3 tons as well as made 98* against the Strikers in practice game last week. He smashed Glenelg on the weekend, handled Chad Sayers easily as well.

McInerney one of the most improved players in comp last couple of years, churning out the runs at the moment.

Reckon in pecking order for Redbacks would be:

Alex Ross - would have replaced Cooper if Shield season had continued on now
Kelvin Smith - would have replaced Dalton, but Siddons did not want to make change with only one game to go before break (then Dalton makes a 50 odd to maybe save himself)
Patrick Page Jnr - be next in line but still another year away, unless Redbacks cant play finals near end of season they may blood him
Harry Nielsen - like McInerney, making lots of runs and ready to go if Carey gets selected for higher honours
Connor McInerney - as C Horse says, cant fault his form, but batting on Woodville Oval every second match is a pretty big advantage to him.

Reckon Grade pitches are too batter friendly, they mostly give the bowlers nothing, then when they get promoted to Redbacks or Futures League they struggle when the ball starts doing a bit.

Harvey Brennan a ton tonight in a T20 vs TTG. Shame he didn't stay in the U19s program. Can play.

Please tell me we are not going to bring in somebody new when Alex Ross and Kelvin Smith are waiting in the wings. They are both potentially very good first class players and I will be disappointed if we go down another path. Smith is still young enough to mature into an outstanding first class player and The high performance department has put a lot of time and money into these two players and personally I would like to see them both be given an opportunity when one arises. All due credit to the other lads however in my view Smith and Ross are much better prospects at the moment, Conor McInerney has made hundreds at Price Memorial,Park 25 and Woodville Oval ( Northerns ?? ) - Smith is making consistent hundreds at second eleven level and definitely deserves another opportunity in my view.

With the Xmas break here, you would say Uni and TTG are certain finalists, so other two final spots are pretty open with a number of teams still a chance.

At the turn of the year it's pretty interesting reading. There's a few surprise packets in here as well as a couple really disappointing showings so far. I've included a positive and negative for each team so far as well to provide some context for those not completely across each teams performance so far. You all have a much better view of certain clubs than I, so I'd love to get your takes on individual clubs you've seen play.

140 - Adelaide Uni + Not just the Ben Wakim show, though he really helps. - Strong starts are a bit of a mixed bag, can't get complacent.
135 - TTG + Gatting. - Rumours of a few youngsters wanting out as a result of the Win at All Cost mentality consuming the higher grades.
95 - Sturt + Davis not scoring runs and still winning (he's 5th for them in the 2 day comp). - If it doesn't spin they won't be a chance towin.
80 - Adelaide + Raphael proving a point. - Need more than Patterson to stand up with the ball if they are going to contend.
80 - ET + Robins/Leigh 38 wickets between them. - Logan heading to Tasmania, if you count him they have 3 bowlers in the top 10 poles.
70 - Glenelg + Daniel Clarke coming out of nowhere. - Need more from their spinners (Bowering looks good) at Gliderol every second week.
70 - WT + Bailey Capel. - Need Spencer Johnson back ASAP, but don't expect too much from someone who hasn't bowled for 3 months.
65 - Woodville + MacInerny, plus the recruitment of Dickman. - Can't take a wicket to save themselves, second last to Prospect in wickets taken.
50 - Kensi + Lloyd Pope/Henry Dall are the future of the club. - Without SACA players they are bad, Opie/Grant/Dalton could win a flag though.
50 - Port + Jace O'Hara being able to land them on the pitch. - Haven't tried enough with the ball, 7 bowlers all season for 55 wickets can't win.
45 - ND + Duval contributing on field and not just filling numbers. - Have tried too much with the ball, 15 bowlers for 48 wickets is desperate.
30 - Prospect + Brennan IF he commits more time to cricket. - Not enough space here to cover everything, IMO are worse than SD/ND.
0 - SD + Rajesh getting more hits at A Grade level. - Only happening because they get outrighted every week, Can;t expect 1,000 runs from McCormack and Barret every season.

Uni have certainly got themselves a decent side now. Nine good 1st Grade pick ups since the start of last season:
Wakim, Kerber, Stewart, Burgess, McCollom, De Soysa, Winter, Ellis, Martin

Serious unit

May struggle come finals time though if lose third of their team!!

Stewart gone back to England already, Burgess going back in February, not sure if McCollom goes back to Ireland or De Soysa as well.

Changes the whole team dynamic, every year Glenelg struggled once Hankins went home, Kensington struggles when Hose goes home. Really have to wonder if it is worth it, better off developing your young talent.

Interesting comments by backoftheroom re TTG. Rumours they want the premiership this year and most of the older blokes will retire on that note, as will Sleep as coach. Will be in world of pain after that!

Tough call on Prospect, think they have been fairly competitive, especially in shorter formats, Northerns and Southerns are both a rabble and much worse than them. Agree on most if the other comments.

Is it possible this is how the Grade structure will reduce in clubs without forcing a merger - leave these clubs to fall in a heap and fold?

That would be feasable if they were any other clubs but these two. These two are in a geographical area of their own and need to stay in the comp

Pretty sick of hearing about the geographical area. More to a club than how many people live in the zone. These clubs especially Southerns have pissed up there “great area” for the last 25 years.

Not as simple as that

Increasingly it's rich white families that play cricket. And there are increasingly few of them in the north or south. Lots in the leafy suburbs, beachside suburbs and colleges.

Hopefully T20 helps turn things around and cricket becomes a game for everyone again.
