So how do we feel about them now?
Bigots?
Persecuted minority?
Both?

Labor MP Jason Clare is reported to be voting Yes on the same sex marriage bill despite his electorate of Blaxland recording the highest NO vote in the country at 73.9 per cent.

Interesting. Gives rise to the Trump like silent majority when communities within our own country seemingly hold differing beliefs to those you would traditionally associate with Australia.

Woulda lot of those no votes in Sydney come from seats highly populated my those from Muslim backgrounds?
Seems to be working class and immigrant communities along with rural residents that most strongly voted no.

Much of Western Sydney were no votes from what I saw, so yes, perhaps the communities of immigrants in that region were against the notion.
So you don’t think the Asian or Middle Eastern communities that make up a huge percentage of Sydney’s West made a difference?

It's an overly simplistic view. The result there is a combination of an ageing, low socio economic, predominantly religious population.
Hard to tell depending on different suburbs but my wife’s works has several sites in Western Sydney that deal with immigrants and in suburbs like Parramatta and Cabramatta the percentage is very high. Several suburbs have a very high level of Lebanese population aswell. I haven’t sat down and looked at how the individual seats voted

So 21.5% did not participate in the survey. Interesting.
