Would any SANFL team consider 'John Butcher' next year?

Yeah you can't question his commitment or endeavour.
I think he was unfairly treated at Port but that's in the past now and I hope he goes alright at Centrals.

Probably played his best game last week.
Still erratic - in field play and kicking. Better than we would have had up there without him.
Would be doing better if he had some better service coming into him.
Did have the chance to seal the game with a shot on goal on Saturday but missed, which was a bit disappointing.
Another Doggies fan posted on this site that he is probably going the best of any of our AFL-experienced recruits (although, I feel Josh Glenn had his most productive game for us on the weekend).
I'd rather have the Butch than not. We knew what we were getting.

I think he was given a fair run. One thing he never did ( still hasn't ) while on our list was take an SANFL game by the scruff of the neck and take 10 or 12 marks and kick 6 or 7 goals. He came in at AFL level when we were without a Schulz, Westhoff, Lobbe etc, so it's fair call he didn't really get a long run at it at AFL level. Like I said though. he didn't knock the door down either.

I reckon he's been worth 3 to 4 goals to Us each match so far, kicks 2 or 3 & hands out 1 or 2, I'm happy.

2013 - 9,10,12,16,17,18,19,20 ( 5 in a row ) - 9 goals in 8 games
2014 - 1,2,3 - ( 3 in a row ) 2 goals in 3 games
2015 - 1,20,21,22,23 ( 4 in a row ) - 3 goals in 5 games
2016 - 18,19,20 - ( 3 in a row )5 goals in 3 games.

41 goals in 31 games at 1.32 per game, primarily as a key forward.

I am very happy we picked up Butch. He has proven to be an asset and, if our delivery to him had been better, would probably be averaging four goals a match. He competes extremely well and is well-liked by pretty much everyone at the club.

Jonathon Brown didn't average over 1.5 goals per game for a season until his 5th full year.. Kicked 84 goals from 76 games in his first 4 years. Yes he played behind Lynch and Bradshaw so he was given a good run to develop

Butcher played when Port were either going poorly, or covering other injuries. Was he given a good run at an AFL career and a chance to develop? Im leaning towards no. But, that's just personal opinion. Im glad the Dogs fans are happy with what they have, its about time the bloke feels some love I think

Also, by no means am I comparing the 2 above players. It is merely an example that his goals per game output wasn't as severely down as it may appear

Even with the shite football we've played this year I reckon Butch would've benefited with the presence of Connor McLean up forward. If he can get fit the kid will be a beauty. It's starting to be a big if though, he can't stay on the park.

Didn't play the whole game, but did play most. Had a leg injury. Probably had about three contests. The ball never got down to him. I would have thought (before he was injured) they should have got him into the game.

Apparently played most of the game with a leg injury, does explain things to an extent but also begs the question, why was he out there if he was injured?
Dogs fans on the other thread have said that Sturt sort of just did what they had to do, and they would know more about it that me, who has just looked at the stats, but I honestly can't fathom why he was out there.

Sturt were without a player and rotation for 3/4 of the game also with young Dwayne Wilson doing a hammy early in the 1st quarter.
