AFL Writers pick their SOO Teams

Postby bennymacca » Wed May 31, 2017 10:57 am

I know we will never get back SOO but it's interesting to see potentially what the teams would look like.

http://m.afl.com.au/news/2017-05-31/sta ... f-the-best

The SA team looks pretty weak tbh, especially up forward.

The current Victorian team looks like it would smash all the rest by a significant margin (though on paper you could probably say that about any Victorian team ever)

Thanks for posting that, I was just looking at it on my phone wondering how I could get it on here.

Yes, lucky it's a mock thingy, we look shit, the allies look shit too.

The talent pool really is at it's thinnest, there are weak links in all of the teams.

I thought the allies looked very good too.

And where are the weak links in the Victorian team? Hehe

Yep, except first job would be to put Andrews to FB, Rampe to the pocket and get rid of Harbrow (how he's ever been rated is beyond me).

Bwhaha:

ALLIES

B: Jarrod Harbrow, Dane Rampe, Jeremy Howe
HB: Callum Mills, Steven May, Zac Williams
C: Isaac Smith, Dayne Beams, Nick Riewoldt
HF: Steven Motlop, Taylor Walker, Mav Weller
F: Jack Riewoldt, Ben Brown, Luke Breust
R: Toby Nankervis, Isaac Heeney, Dayne Zorko
INT: Sam Gilbert, Zach Tuohy, Jack Steele, Lachie Weller

Sorry but there are very few A Graders in that line up.

Yeah, a bit tough on the Vic's, thought Pendles over Oliver, they only have one ruckman and their full back line doesn't look that strong, although that could be my lack of footy watching this season.

One of the best things about SOO was a few of the less heralded players that stood up.

Whilst they were known, but not revered like Platts, Kernahan, Bradley etc, players like Andrew Rogers, Champion, Stretch etc were all considered "questionable" by many, given the quality of opposition, but absolutely were up to the occasion.

Funner things have happened, we were able to get over several more highly-credentialled Vic teams in the 80's and 90's.

That said, the Vic team they've listed is outstanding. Think on paper the SA team is the worst of the 4.

You do raise a fair point, mate. It could be argued that with Sticks Kernahan up forward and a local comp that could match it with the VFL, despite the aforementioned credentials, SA was well placed to be more than competitive.

Today's Vic team would wipe the floor. Absolutely incredible.

I was going to suggest that we'd be on par with the allies but you are right, we are crap, not sure where our goals would come from.

Robbie Gray couldn't make it in to any squads?

Hartlett is lucky to be in Ports team at the moment.

Hombsch should be ahead of Jonas and probably Grundy.

R.Gray doesn't get a game for Vic.

Go home selectors, you're drunk.
