How often, if ever do people have their roller door motor serviced?
I had a new one installed about 8 years ago and have never had it serviced.

A mate was telling me he has his serviced every 2 years.
What the hell would they actually do?

Sounds like a waste of coin to me.

seriously, if they were just suicidal i could understand, but no on a suburban 50k road

Not justifying it anyway but I've been told by someone who works in a nursing home that it's because footpaths are often cracked and bulged from tree roots so it's harder for them to walk on and the risk of falling is greater. I know recently my mother went for a walk by herself around her neighbourhood and went arse up from a crack in the footpath she wasn't watching closely enough and fortunately only ended up with a slightly sprained wrist and a few bruises.

I know the footpaths in my area are like minefields so have to watch where I'm walking pretty intently to avoid twisting an ankle or something.

Serviced? Buy a can of 3 in 1 Garage Door lubricant from Bunnings for $10 and keep the tracks lubed up, won't need to "service" it, until it dies.

My house was built in 1987 and the original roller door only died last year.
I know it hadn't been serviced since I bought the place in early 2009.
I occasionally sprayed a bit of silicon lubricant in the tracks when it started sticking.
That was OK until something broke inside the roller at the top and it started rattling - and sticking more completely.

I've just been informed by accounts that our old GM, who happens to be the owners son in law, signed up to a phone system in 2011 which costs us $420 a month through a finance company (but is charged on our Telstra bill). The original finance term was 48 months, but continues forever if you don't cancel and send the unit back at your cost.

So the company has paid in excess of $25,000 on a system that a quick internet search tells me it would've been worth less than $2,000 at the time the contract was signed.

The person responsible is now a home loan broker, so f**k dealing with him. I always thought he was an incompetent conman. The more and more I learn about his time here, the more convinced I am.
