Shield final is always a joke with the top of the table team just needing a draw and playing for it, not the win
We managed to f*** that theory last year.

You think it was the Duke balls?
I always felt the blokes looking to take the game on was a bigger factor - guys like Weatherald, Head, Lehmann looking to score at a strike rate of 70-80 from ball one instead of batting time. Ferguson had a stinker after Christmas too.
We seemed to always bat better in the 2nd dig - no bonus points on offer then - coincidence?

Solution: Play the formats in blocks in relation to what our national side is doing. Splitting the Shield season up is crap, we end up picking the test team on the back of T20 form or no form and award ODI spots on Shield form or T20 form from 6 weeks prior, there were players representing our ODI team that I didn't even know what state they were from.

could they start the shield season earlier and play the ODI season after the big bash? probably not enough weeks to do that.
Its hard to see a way around it given the big bash aint moving any time soon. unless you play both leagues at the same time which isnt going to happen either

A reasonable year really and you would expect this group to take out a Shield title while Sayers is leading the attack. Carey the big improver this year. Maybe worth batting him a bit higher up the order?
