It's the worst Carlton team I've seen in a long time, and yet I don't think you're as far off the mark as you normally are my friend.

They are also the only side to be beaten in a final by a side who finished outside the 8. They will go to water when it counts

I don't disagree that their record stands against them. But the Bulldogs also had a poor track record until last season.
As I said, it's not a lay down misere, but it's a possibility worth taking note of.

I know, I know, I hear the guffaws from here, but I think they're a chance. Hear me out.
Last season, the Western Bulldogs had a very tight, affirming victory over Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.
At the time, I said that they were now serious premiership contenders (not that I expected them to win).
To win the premiership, I believe you have to scalp either Adelaide or Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.
When either of those sides are 12th or above on the premiership ladder, winning at Adelaide Oval is a very big challenge - the fortress-like mentality teams need to adapt is the kind you need to forge and develop as you head towards the grand final at the MCG.
On Saturday night, Richmond defeated a Port Adelaide side that is far from rubbish and this year is one of the strangest competitions in memory, anyone can win it (remember where the Bulldogs came from last season). On those grounds, the Tigers are capable of giving the flag a very good shake.
I'm not saying this is a definitive indicator, but I reckon it's a pretty good one.
If nothing else, Richmond supporters can go towards the finals this season knowing their side can go very deep.
