Worst injury

Postby silicone skyline » Fri Aug 10, 2007 11:51 am

Sitting out for two weeks now with a mild adductor strain, got me thinking of the worst injuries i've had.
I've dislocated both little fingers, and thats about as far as it goes.
Been pretty lucky (touch wood).
Whats the worst you guys have had, and how has it happened?
Or, what's the worst injury you ever saw?
For mine, was last week in reserves game, two blokes going at the ball in opposite directions, one went to ground, slid right into the shin of the other bloke.
Broke both bones cleanly in his lower leg.
Hideous.

I've had bruised kidneys.
Shepherding a team-mate, he went through bull at a gate and got me with his shoulder as he was coming up.
Pis5ing blood etc. Spent a night in hospital. Got out the next day to move house.
Spent two days at my desk at work.
Four days later I was back in hospital with a blood clot.

Spent eight weeks out. Made my return in a knock-out semi. Kicked a goal with my first kick back.

Apart from that - have continuing back/adductor problems.
Currently playing with a finger that hasn't repaired after dislocating.

Broken/dislocated most fingers.
Torn ligaments in my ankle.
Torn a hamstring.
Torn shoulder ligaments.

Luckily I haven't done any really major injuries in 22 years of playing the sport.

I thought foot in mouth might have been your worst injury

Well here's a thread that's right up my alley.. wouldn't even know where to start...

edit: SS - How to stop adductor injuries...stop spreading your legs

In all seriousness, adductors in my exprerience are usually back/hip/pelvis related. You might be twisted...

Never had a muscle injury or broken bone - pretty lucky in that regard. I have had plenty of joint injuries though.

Dislocated thumbs, fingers, shoulder.
Strained PCL in right knee
Torn ACL in left knee (that one ended my footy playing days - 12 months rehab sucks ar5e)
Torn ligaments in right ankle (had a recon on that one too)
I even burst a cyst (that I never knew I had until I burst it) that is embedded in my right thumb bone - someone stepped on my thumb in a pack and burst the cyst, releasing blood and crap into my thumb joints - couldn't move the thumb for 2 weeks.

Staggering to think I still wish I could play and still miss playing the game.

Ha, Nenks is a champion bloke. He really struggled through that last year he played when he came back to Salisbury but still seemed to enjoy it.

Never saw anyone dominate a game in juniors like he did, damn hamstrings really hamstrung his football career.

To be All Australian at 16 and washed up by 20. Very sad at the time. He's probably over it now. But it must've been hard.

personally,
dislocated shoulder with splitting the bone at the top - had reconstruction but surgeon sewed nerve with the ligaments resulting in loss of deltoids as no nerve present to carry messages. This was repaired with a nerve transplant from foot to shoulder.
Yes, I still throw like a girl.
Followed next season by detached retina and five operations to get that one better- time to give it away.
still coaching and umpiring though.

Other people -
ruptured spleen at a norwood v west junior game - luckily a trainer didn't like the look of the boy turning blue and sent him to hospital.
dislocated and broken hip joint wasn't too pleasant either.
always forgive your enemies...nothing annoys them so much

Great advertisement isn't it?

I must say I played about 400 games of juniors plus seniors to get those injuries, strike rate was pretty good.

Here is the injury list of one of my players alone (and this guy is only about 25,)

3 shoulder re-cons ( 2 on 1 shoulder)

2 knee recons (1 on each knee, was due to come back next year, but read on)

1 broken collar bone

1 broken wrists
1 broken schaphoid, which is not the same thing

A tooth knocked out

and an ankle re-con.... that was until last weekend when the little darling decided to be evil Kinevil and his motorbike landed on him, shattering his ankle and breaking his tib and fib, requiring another ankle recon (on his good ankle).

As of today he has something like 39 plates and screws in various parts of his body...

When he did his first knee, his dad and I were trying to figure out a safe sport for him to play... we couldn't think of one, knowing his luck, he'd probably take an eye out playing tiddlywinks...

he was ready to start training in pre-season 08 after doing his ACL in the GF last year, but his outside interest has almost friggin killed him (again). After he did his first knee back in 2005, he was on the comeback trail and did exactly the same thing, almost good to come back, goes bike riding, falls off and breaks his collar bone and wrist... which instead of coming back for the beginning of 2006, didnt come back until just after halfway through 2006, played 6 games and 15 mins of the Grand Final and bang...knee no.2...

I have video of me breaking both the bones in my lower leg, which has stuffed me up for good! The sound of the bone breaking makes for intersting viewing. This year I have seen 2 teams mates with serious head injuries. One had a fractured eye socket, jaw and cheekbone while the other had a smashed jaw. Not too often that happens ,let alone twice in one season in the same team

Its time I entered the fray

At 16 yrs old Strained the muscle between driver and hammy on the outside (don't know what its called) on a Tuesday still played on the Saturday needless to say I was frickin useless. Also I can still feel the massive lump of scar tissue

Have had Hamstring tendonitis since 2005 and only during the footy season. Careful management of this has allowed me to keep playing. Finally got on top of this after a trip to the podiatrist back in April 07. About to go in for a tune up next Tuesday.

Right Knee PCL I think never got it checked out last year and missed 8 weeks. Feels fine now

Left knee LCL strain and cartilage damage 3 months ago and missed 3 weeks

Left knee again 2 weeks ago same injury found out season over yesterday and will need an MRI next week too.

will also chuck in some cricket ones as well;

the mandatory busted fingers and bruises on various parts of the body

naturally tight tendons in my shoulder and the bastards won't stretch either
