Triple M on facebook:

"Thomas confirmed Impey was at teammate Angus Monfries' house during the afternoon - whose car was also impacted - and that they had been drinking, but said it was "impossible" to comment on how much of an effect that had on the incident itself."

Wouldn't of thought so.
Fine and a loss of license would be sufficient

Given greater crimes avoid a jail sentence I'd think no chance .. Both lads will be in plenty of strife at the club I'd say, but maybe a fine and some counselling for JI (or something along those lines)

Fine and loss of license would be what he'd get if he stayed and accepted the blame. Considering he's done a runner the penalty should be much harsher otherwise noone would stick around after accidents.

Yep leaving the scene makes this much more than just drink driving.
Surely the club has to suspend him for the first 4-6 games of the year?
And impose a huge fine.

Considering no one was injured there will be no jail time. People have avoided jail for hit and runs with others injured or killed.
Johncock got a $1500 fine and loss of license for 6 months for a similar offence if I'm not mistaken

My old man got a massive fine and lost his license for 2.5 years for hitting a parked car drunk and he didn't leave the scene.

No priors but did blow .284.
I would think if someone left the scene and they'd been drinking that it would be an assumption their level was at the top of the scale with an extra penalty on top of that.
Otherwise all piss heads will be driving off.

Anyway, will Ken Hinkley be different on TV ads next year?
Instead of saying "We will never give up" will he say "We will give up but not till the next morning"?

At least they must be serious about their pre season at Port. Walking from Norwood to Grange is a fair hike.

Yes, interesting how the club responds to this. I presume the leadership group at Port will in some way, shape, or form, throw the book at him and rub him out for a while.

The question is, then, what punishment should be applied to those who let Impey leave Monfries' house after allegedly drinking all afternoon? We don't know how much he had drunk, but if (and I emphasise the 'if') he'd been consistently knocking them back during the course of the arvo it's likely he would've been over the limit.

Surely whoever else was there (I'm assuming a number of Port players apart from Monfries and Impey were in attendance) would've known this, and thus had some responsibility to exert some leadership among team-mates and ensure Impey didn't leave the house in a state that would arguably lead to a breach of the law, or potentially something worse. Hopefully none of the leadership group were there too.
