Of course it would've made a difference, but like I said, Encounter may not of won but the players out sure do make a difference, especially like you said when there aren't players to cover for them.
If you look at where the reserves teams are placed it could have something to do with how teams can cover injured players. Langhorne Creek are top in both comps both underfeated, so they obviously have a wealth of players to choose from. Willunga second in A's, 3rd in B's, again plenty of players knocking on the A grade door. Strathalbyn are the same with teams sitting 4th in A's and 2nd in B's.
Then take a look at the other two teams in the 5. Mount Compass, were they undermanned through injury or illness last week? B Grade team sitting 6th or 7th, Encounter Bay have a few injuries and their B grade is sitting 6th or 7th. You just don't have the plethora of players as the other clubs do and although I can guarantee you there are some good players in the B grade, can they fill key positions??? How else can you explain Mount Compass being beaten by Yankalilla???
The only time i've ever been wrong...was when I thought I was wrong!!!

at no stage footymad/panther did i suggest its stitched up.
the creeks are a definite, all ive said at this stage is current form suggests that strath will finish 4th and then its out of the other sides for 5th.
what happened in april matters for nothing at the moment and later on. as what happened in june matters for little aswell.
those sides when we played them played poorly, and since then their form has not lifted a lot but as players come back (due to lack of depth) they will improve. lets hope so as the last couple of rounds will shape the 5.
bring it on!!

Final 5 is of no significance:

1. LC (red hot favourite)
2. Willunga (could snatch it)
3. Mt.Compass (gooone, but it will be nice to play a prelim)
4. Strath (up and down, could get to the prelim where they'll be embarrassed)
5. Bays or Myponga (country miles off the pace . Both teams could only beat the bottom side by 30 and 36 points respectively)

Gees lads, worth looking at the metro div 4 thread. The Encounter Bay coach gets a fair ribbing! Poor bloke even gets sledged on the net!

Spot on there Panther32. If you look at the sides that have won A Grade premierships over the last 5-10 years in most country leagues I'm sure that the majority of them have had strong Reserves sides. I'm pretty sure that Willunga won 4 Reserves flags between 2001 & 2004. There's no doubt that this strong depth would have been pivotal in the club winning 3 A Grade flags between 2004 & 2006.

This week's tips

Langhorne Creek over Encounter Bay 60-70 points
Myponga over Saints 30-40 points
Victor Harbor over Strath in a boilover! 1-10 points
Mt Compass to bounce back over McLaren 40-50 points
Willunga over Yankalilla by a cricket score

Interesting Limb! I think

LC over Bays (70-80)
Myponga over Saints (40-50)
Strath over VH (70-80)
Mt C over MClaren (70-80)
Willunga v Yank (100+)

I know I tipped Myponga, but 2 weeks ago I said that the Saints would beat them at home, which they did easily. Limb I believe you said that there was 'no way' the Saints would win. Unfortunately in the process we helped Encounter Bay, which puts a sour note on the victory! When we hit the front in the last we talked about 'tanking' it, to help Myponga, but the elusive win was enough motivation not to.

I gotta hand it to the Saints.. I didn't think they would be any match for the Mudlarks. I've got a couple of mates who play for the Saints and they weren't very confident which gave me the impression they wouldn't be much chance of winning.
Good to see they're still having a dip even though they haven't got much to play for this year.

Having clubs like Yank and the Saints get up over more favoured opponents only proves that the competition is a little more even than people think. It also adds the point that the GSFL does not need a points system just yet, most leagues adopt this (and import) system to allow the comp to become more even.
Don't get me wrong there are good arguments both for and against the proposed system, personally I dont think it needs to be adopted just yet.

You are spot on FM. Even though Willunga have been dominate this decade, dont forget that a club like the Saints were playing finals only three years ago, so the cycle will turn sooner or later. There is not one club in the league that has been down and out for a lond peroiod of time.

Also important to note that while Willunga have good depth there current guns are not getting any younger.
I'd like to see it left the way it is but maybe allow a couple of extra dollars for clubs to spend on players (if thye have it) that come dead last or something - but even this has good and bad points doesnt it.

LF can you give us a run down on the Mypo V Saints game? What did you guys do well to beat them etc? Without taking anything away from you most thought they would be to good.

We have got Mt compass and willunga to play so we knew it was our last real good chance at a win. We were disappointed that we didnt beat them last time as we kicked 2 goal 8 in the first quarter so that was good motivation. In fairness to them they lost faggoter and tomlinson in the 1st quarter for the game. we beat them in the middle, our tackling was the best its been all year, Dustin Hirst did a great job on Sterzl, and senior colt Tom Fergusson was on fire (kicked 5). Everything just clicked!

Yes they do have some good runners though and Sterlz is the main man seemingly so you blokes did very well which also put Ebay back in the hunt.
Looks like 5th spot will now come down to the final game of the season between Mypo and Ebay unless ofcourse McLaren can snag a win over the Mypo this week.

Who would be the mail medal favourites from each club? Langhorne Creek, Willunga & Mt Compass have been at the top of the table all year and have probably got the majority of the total votes however I don't think there has been a single outstanding player in any of these sides. We could well see the mail medal go to someone from one of the other clubs. Who would be the top candidates from each club in the GSFL??

Your right limb, regardless of where teams finish you will see votes go to influencial players from mid table clubs. In saying this I'm backing burdett from compass who has had a solid year.
Whats your tip limb?

I was leaning towards Burdett myself. I don't think I've seen him in full flight personally but from all reports he's been pivotal in the rise of the dogs this year.
I'd be struggling to find a clear favourite at the creek. I reckon the top vote getter would be a toss up between Buckley, Love, Hill and James.
Who would be leading the charge at Enc Bay??
I'm sure BJ Ernest would have some thoughts on Willunga's best hopes.

my tip is burdett, got a name at league level and is a fine player when in full flight having seen him first hand dominate a half at a high level, also in best players a lot at compass and other than maxfield noone to really take the votes.
i think willunga and langhorne creek have the same problem, a lot of guys on any day can get the votes so i dont think we'll see a winner from either of these. dobson, thomas and carnevale maybe the ones that could surprise me but i doubt it.
from any other clubs theres eagleton and richo from strath, maybe stokes from EB but very hot and cold. loots from pongy always polls well.
i'll let someone else throw some more names in the ring!

BJ I agree mate, the next best thing at Compass is Maxwell also Schmidt (2) gets plenty of it.
My dark horse for Willunga is Carnavale, played consistanly since round one however I agree with your points.
Interesting you put Stokes in the mix - my choices for the bay would haveto be Princi, Baylis, S.Brown, O.Love but Stokesy may poll well.

How about Duffeild from Strath? Sterlz from Mypo?

To be honest though with the dimwitted umpires running our league the medal could go bloody anywhere!
