In the case of some clubs, I think it has been forced upon them by lack of playing numbers, or blokes who just want to have a run in the 'magoos'.
In others like Loxton, it seems they have a huge amount of kids with enough talent to play at A grade level, so why not?

Probably the main thing is the game has become so much faster and there is less and less room for fossils of the game.

Clubs appear to have made a concious effort to actually follow up on their claims regarding 'junior development programs', 'promoting juniors' and not paying players (maybe). All of which had been paid only lip service in the past.

Loxton North's premiership three seasons ago with home grown players proved a point to many people, and all seem to be following suit. In the lead up to this season several opposition coaches or club officials referred to what 'Lefty' had done at Loxton North.

While it hasn't been a successful year for North in 2007, if they can hold on to their kids, it will pay dividends in the future. As for all other clubs, it depends on whether they have the patience to put up with the bad years when their younger players aren't quite up to scratch. North have shown that ability to have patience.

Waikerie and Berri are always happy to recruit to boost numbers. Loxton's used mostly locals in the past three seasons - with exception of Quinn last year, while Renmark has openly recruited this season (many of the players have local connections) and Barmera has obviously had a high number of travellers in the past few seasons. However, this year they've relied on locals, or players with local connections.

Has the economic situation also helped promote this unique position we find ourselves in with more young locals getting a game?

Well said DW.

All of a sudden we've become intellectuals!

I reckon you're right about clubs following in the footsteps of Lefty.
He's done a teriffic job over the last five years in promoting youth and the Tigers did similar when Zerna took over as coach and now Kruger.

Gold. Only weeks after the committee said they were right behind him.
They didn't say they were right behind him, pushing him out the door.

I wonder if Southern Fan, being from down in South's territory, has any thoughts about Pyman's departure....

Hahaha.
They're a shambles at the moment.
To go from what they were last year to what they are now...something must be seriously wrong.

Sadly, I'm resigned to another year without finals action, just got to count on my mighty Lions sneaking into the eight now.

Thanks boys for that insight. Well done to Lefty around the promotion of young fellas but sad to see that a few LN so be followers are the first to back stab around performance this year, as i have said a coachs performance should be based on his whole tenure at a club not just one year. Something i would like your insight into BD as the club u come from i dont know why or the reasons behind Blackers left but if u look at his whole tenure at PFC he in my opinion done well. Be good to hear u opinion.

Recollect - despite his premiership success, I understand that Lefty has always been fighting those elements at North. It's not just been happening this year.

Could HE coach Barmera next year....or could he and Rod form a partnership there (if as you say Rod's looking at having a crack at a higher level). They're good mates aren't they?

As for Blackers - he chose to leave Paringa didn't he?

Blackers coached in 2001-02 and then again in 2005-06.
He won a premiership in 02 and 05 and the team made the GF in 06.
He did a fantastic job with the club to turn it around and on a personal note taught me a lot about the game.

I would think Brett just got tired of the internal politics of the club and really needed a break away from the game.
As you probably know, senior coaching is a tough gig and I think it really took its toll on the big fella.
