Official announcement from the Kings on the signing of 13 year NBA veteran Steve Blake. The 6'3" PG has played 870 NBA games for Washington, Portland, Milwaukee, Denver, LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Golden State and most recently Detroit last season. Over his NBA career he has averaged 6.5 ppg, 4 apg and shoots 38% on 3pts. He's expected to arrive this week and make his debut for the Kings in their Round 4 home game next Sunday against Brisbane.

The Kings already shaping as the team to beat.

Admittedly I know nothing about Blake, but if he is as big a pick up as you say, Gozu, then they deserve early favouritism with the bookies.

Whats the NBL salary Cap? How can sydney fit in 3 imports (Powell / Blake would be massive $$, whittington probably a bit less without NBA experience). Newley / Lisch and Khazzou would be some of the top paid aussies. That's 5 players who would want top dollar + Whittington. Cadee is probably (with Sobey) the most improved player in the league but will have to ride the bench now with Blake coming.

Not to mention Aleks Maric. Must be some very creative accountants at Sydney.

Yeah just between us I suspect the Kings might be over the salary cap probably close to double it. The NBL seem to be turning a blind eye to it under the idea more talent in the league improves the standard and hopefully increases interest. Not exactly a sustainable model but LK is bank rolling the league and whilst he's willing to write the cheques teams are willing to cash them I suppose. The 36ers decision to run with a cheaper young team knowing they couldn't compete financially with the Sydney's and Melbourne's is starting to look even shrewder.

On the Blake signing according to Gaze they're actually going to be bringing him off the bench to back up Lisch/Cadee at least initially anyway. He said they had nothing there as back up if one of those two went down injured so Blake takes care of that. I'm not sure Blake is out here for the fun of it either he was still playing in the NBA last season and has never played anywhere outside the NBA so I wouldn't be surprised if he's still hoping for a call up at some point this season.

Interesting to note the 36ers Terrance Ferguson has been offered a two game suspension for a hit/attempted hit on innocent bystander Mark Worthington in the game against Cairns. From what I saw of the incident it looked more like a fresh air swing that might've at best grazed Wortho who went did his best Kramer from Seinfeld impersonation and acted like he was hit flush.

Anyway if Ferguson takes an early plea his suspension will be reduced to one game yet also on the weekend in the Perth/Melb game Tai Wesley swung an elbow into the face of Jameel McKay chipping his tooth and Wesley only got one game reduced to a $500 fine on an early plea.

Not a great time for the Wildcats with their starting PG & back up PG both out injured and now an import down too.

In a bizarre set of circumstances now the Wildcats have re-activated previous import Jaron Johnson who it turns out was never formally released only de-activated and had remained in Perth. According to the Wildcats they intend to keep him on the rest of the season now and he'll play for them tomorrow night against Illawarra.

Think Adelaide will be like that this season. Don't know if you're gonna get a completely noncompetitive loss or a hard fought gutsy victory. Due for a win in the next game now.
