Hombsch's 10 disposals a game will surely be the difference.

Also, when you have Trengove and Hombsch in the same team in 2016, your 5-5, all 5 wins against spud teams.

1 inclusion, yes, 3 back into their rightful positions though.

Hombsch isn't there to get 25 touches, he's our at home key defender, moot point.

Those 10 games you note, was Trengove at CHB or in the ruck? Pretty important to structures, wouldn't you agree?

If Lobbe is traded as he has requested then Trengove will still need to do a fair amount of the ruck work.
Ryder doesn't have the tank nor ticker to ruck anywhere near a whole game.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

If having two injuries/suspensions and one player out of position ruins your whole season, I'd put that down to poor list management and wouldn't hold high hopes until some depth is established.

Hmmm. Ryder not playing - not in his position. Trengove rucking - not in his position. Hombsch injured - not in his position. Is that clear enough now? I really, really hope so.

I've questioned our depth several times, as a result of not having our 1st or 2nd choice ruckman and both our key defensive posts missing from that area*.

*Trengove played, but I think you'll get it that he wasn't in the preferred position we would want him in.

Hmm...10 wins

Essendon
Melbourne
Collingwood
North Melbourne (with washed up hacks)
Gold Coast
Richmond x 2
Brisbane x 2

Includes loses to Carlton, Melbourne and Freo.

Can't see how one player back and one player back into his normal position can rectify this instantly. But we'll see, won't we.

We're not talking outside runners here, we're talking key position players.

And it's three. 3. Trois.

back pocket - No Hombsch - back pocket
flank - no trengove - flank

No Ryder - Ruck rover - rover

I'd prefer to use water colors on canvas, but hopefully this is a good enough picture.

PS - You got a beer yet? I'm on my second.

How many of your players went close to a career year? And with the exception of gray your midfield all underperformed.

It wasn't Ryder's fault you were average.

Our season was defined by poor skills coming out of an under manned defence that put the midfield under too much pressure and resulted in far too many turn overs giving sides easy, repeat F50 entries.

I've not gone out of my way to emphasize the loss of Trengove, Hombsch and Jonas from our back 6 set up for no reason. All our issues stemmed from there. As they say, defence wins premierships and, while I don't believe we were anywhere near premiership bound the loss of your two key posts in the back half is difficult for any side to cover, especially one that's probably in the 6th-12th range on the ladder.

If this doesn't confirm the concerns about Ports depth then nothing will. "Ryder is back so we will be ok" ...wow.
