Yep, me too. With Adelaide only being able to take 32K, as the article states, surely that can be broken quite easily with the combination of a Glenelg, Norwood, Port, Centrals or Sturt GF and therefore AAMI would be needed. Let's hope it cracks that mark this week.

Oui, moi aussi. The crowd at the semi finals was just about at the limit for my liking. Any more would have been uncomfortable. The GF can reasonably expect to draw more than mid-20s and therefore should be played at FP. Don't get me wrong, I love Adelaide Oval, but it just ain't big enough for the big day.

will be big enough once reno's are done, maybe consider it then.

Also Ecky I dont think the weather on has been better than last year, we certainly had a wetter winter this year and there were quite a few wet/windy Saturdays

I was at the Adel Utd v Sydney FC sold out match early this year at Adel Oval. Looked full and the crowd figure was no where near 32K, was 20-25K i think. A sellout crowd at the Adel Oval for a GF will only get around 26K IMO.

A sellout crows game gets 40K in a 51K stadium due to no shows. This would happen at AO as well, so they shouldnt be looking at the capacity figure as I reckon there would be around 5000 no shows. Mostly SACA members.

Yes, but I'm not really comparing things to last year, just other years on average.

The main issue with Adelaide for the GF is capacity given 18000 AAMI stadium members able to attend as part of their membership plus all SACA members able to attend as part of their membership. Of course not all attend but would still mean all western side stand seating would have to be reserved. Also GF is part of the corporate packages at AAMI which would have to be taken into account.

Need to take into account all the SANFL required passes too for the clubs in the early games, the guests, players families, the entertainment folk etc.

Thus the 32000 current maximum is cut to approx 18000 admissions for the public.

At footy park no need to keep space for SACA members and larger capacity means something like 35000 public admissions available.

Thus GF needs to be at AAMI.

NFC still don't know where you are coming from...all those finals attendance stats were when the Eagles competed in the finals????
At least the Eagles have some stats to go on.

Very true, and it gives me the runs to be honest.
I remember cricket games vs the Windies at AO back in the early to mid 80's. They recorded crowds of about 32,000 there from memory. And not one empty seat, the place looked great.
A sporting event before a roaring, packed house is a great spectacle. But glaring, empty seats detract from the importance and it is a real shame when there are usually several thousand wanting to get in, but couldn't because the event was supposedly "sold out".
Season ticket holders, members etc. should be made to nominate if they'll attend events, if they aren't going to show up then the stadium could sell their seat just for that game, and they could recieve some sort of reimbursement for it.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

The bandwagon Glenelg supporters (nothing wrong with bandwagon supporters every team needs them) should get tge Grand Final crowd up around the high 30 000's me thinks BUT boy aint they gonna get a shock when they see the Central army behind the goals going nuts with the scarfs flying high and the Central chant echooing all the way around aami stadium. It will be a far cry from the usual Crows games these supporters are use to.

I think that there will be just on 30,000 there for this weeks GF...

The so called bandwagoners will increase the numbers for sure but I think there will be a pretty even mix of Bays and Dogs fans there on Sunday.

The Snouts will have their spot on the pocket and the Doggies "end to enders" will be in full voice behind the goals.

I reckon the members and outer wing will be about a 50 / 50 mix of both sides and neutral fans as well.

Why hasn't AFL and SANFL Club Board member Mark Riccuito been fined for bringing the game in disrepute (if that's the terminology)??

He stated, "Like it or not, the SANFL has been on the decline since the Crows came in back in 1991. Just like every state-based league since the VFL turned national and became the AFL.

Crowds have been falling away since then. The Crows predicted bigger crowds but they unfortunately haven’t come"
(at least this part is true)

Now in the context of Spelly's post below and with the previous figures posted by others. When's the retraction and apology coming?

Make no doubt about this this has been an amazing season for attendances at the SANFL.

As at tonight my figures have the SANFL with the highest attendances this decade

TOTAL SANFL SEASON CROWDS
(As at end of Preliminary Final)

2008 - 324,668 (up 32,292 from 2007)
2007 - 292,376
2006 - 284,702
2005 - 274,717
2004 - 288,153
2003 - 285,016
2002 - 316,872
2001 - 317,757
2000 - 314,269

Very timely bump MT79.
Interesting reading through the comments, I forget who said it, but one poster mentioned the honesty of the competition. Remember how we used to boast about that all the time? It's no wonder supporters are jumping off un their droves.
