FWIW,dating in todays world is not any where near as important to a relationship as it was some 30-40 years ago.
Relationships now can start from a look across a crowded dance floor,a wink at the bus stop,and when I say a relationship,I'm talking in a physical sense.Where as years back,this action would have only started perhaps some early courting,with,depending on the people,no intention of physical contact in the near future.
Now,people go in after the look or wink,wanting physical contact to start the ball rolling,not be the end result of some hard work.Put plain and simply,I think people,men and women,are just out for a shag now,if things work out beyond that,so be it.
So,if you're looking for something more,good luck.

I don't think you can have a blanket ruling for this, each situation & circumstance is different. I met a my last g/f in town, we spent the night partying on, we went "home" the first night (with her friend, & no, dammit!:x), she stayed for an hour.

We then spent a whole night together talking, & had our first kiss (our second meeting), & the next night, we went out for tea. After tea, we spent some more time cuddling & kissing. At this point, we discussed "when would the right time to have sex be?" We decided not to, saying that it would happen when it was meant to happen. Half hour later, I'd opened my account .

My point is though, we were concious of not rushing things, it was the 3rd "date" , & we felt the time was right. We ended up getting engaged, but it didn't work out. I think denying sex, is only there to ascertain as to whether someone is after a one-nighter, or the long haul. If you both decide your ready to give a relationship a go, then I think your ready to be sexual with that person.

I think if there is mutual attraction it is extremely difficult to go much more than 3 or 4 dates without a sexual encounter. However if you really like the person and want it to go further it may be wise to hold on a little longer just to ensure the female is confident you like her for more than just sex. However many a man would say a guy is always going to be interested in a girl until he has "conquered" her providing the quality of company is tolerable. The real test comes after sex when you need to be able to enjoy each others company and be motivated to spend time together without the possibility of sex.

Sex is going to happen eventually and one school of thought says you may aswell get it out of the way and be able to see if there is anything more there.

The other school of thought is that you should build trust and get to know the person before having sex.

I have more respect for the girl who waits till the 2nd or 3rd date. If both parties are keen from then on what does it really matter? It is as natural occurence as there is and once youve done it you are a step closer to knowing how long the relationship will last if you are a guy.

Bottom line is each case is different and going with the flow is always the best policy.

The irony of it is quite often you could be kissing and as horny as all hell on the 2nd or 3rd date and you both resist because its early days and then come date 5 or 6 you both think its time and neither party is that keen but you do it anyway and it turns out shit.
