I think Thommo will retire. If you need to be rested twice in a season with two byes also, I think it's time.
BUT depends on what B Crouch does , if he leaves, then Thommo probably goes around one more year

Clubs will be all over CEY is he doesn't re-sign with the Crows soon, I dare say some will be prepared to pay overs as well

I wouldn't blame him if he does leave though. Looks to be afl standard, but the crows just have a decent amount of inside mids

Why wouldn't he look elsewhere? He is clearly at the level and not getting a game, Crows will probably only offer him a 2 year deal max where others will entice him with a 3+ year deal

He's very tight with the indigenous boys and he doesn't strike me as a guy who would chase coin at another club unless they have a large indigenous roster. I think they will sell the "Thommo almost finished" story to him well enough to keep him.

I don't think he's inferior at the present time.

Maybe it's just that we have had an insanely good run with injuries. And in any normal season he would have played at least 10 games

You don't get rid of Thompson to get CEY into the side, you get rid of Thompson because he's not going to be in your best 22 next year. As with Van Berlo and Otten.

Exactly right. If that's what the club believes of course. Van Berlo I agree with. The other two I'm unsure about just at the moment.

There are always players, especially 20-30 on your list, that are roughly equivalent in terms of their output. My point was if thompson falls into that bracket, it makes sense from the long term future of the club to play someone else who is similar ability but can improve and will be there in a years time.

plenty of reasons why clubs will players that arent strictly in the best 22 on any given week

That old line. Tight or not he wants to play league footy.

Add in Beams and Christian into their midfield and they don't need CEY

Probably paid overs for him like Brisbane did for Taylor to keep him at the club. 4 years for a bloke whose body has consistently failed him. Crows supporters would hope it doesn't come back and bite them.

Oh please, you don't think there weren't plenty of other clubs lining up with 4 year deals?

I obviously don't watch the crows games as closely as crow supporters do and I am certainly not going have a go at the length of the contract. But does this lad deserve or earned this much hype?

He's good, perhaps better than good, I would question his body as he's not been sound for 3 years, it took him a long time to get up to speed this year after missing all of last year. A worthy signing though.
