A PUNTER is $29,338 richer after pulling off a 5869-1 long shot over the weekend.
The CrownBet punter scored the payout of a lifetime when his eight-leg multi-bet across AFL and horse racing actually came off.
The punter’s $5 wager came back as $29,343 after combining five bets on the AFL and three bets on Saturday’s races at Caulfield in Melbourne.
The incredible bet went extremely close to coming unstuck several times, but when North Melbourne wrapped up the four points against St Kilda on Saturday night all eight legs emerged successful.
It was very nearly over after the first leg.
The bold punter’s first bet on Giants midfielder Tom Scully to record the most disposals in his assigned group during the Giants’ mauling of Richmond on Saturday only came off by one kick of the Sherrin.
Scully recorded 30 possessions — just one ahead of defender Heath Shaw, who finished the match with 29 possessions.
Carlton’s Patrick Cripps also sprung an upset to record four more possessions than Hawks star Jordan Lewis in the second leg of the wager.
Port Adelaide’s Sam Gray also recorded the most disposals in his group. He had 28 touches while teammate Jared Polec almost ruined the bet with his 25 disposals.
The punter’s bet on five-year-old gelding Magicus to place in The Champagne Pommery Masters Handicap at Caulfield also nearly brought him unstuck.
Magicus finished less than half a length ahead of fourth-placed finisher Archean.
In the end it all came down to Collingwood beating West Coast at the MCG by less than 39 points and North Melbourne beating St Kilda by less than 39 points.
Spurred on by the emotion of Kangaroos great Brent Harvey breaking the all-time AFL games record, North Melbourne at one stage led by 41 points in the final quarter before the Saints fought back to protect the punter’s bet.
It appears it was just meant to be for the lucky punter.
“He would have been a very nervous man,” CrownBet’s Rob Cumbrae-Stewart said.
“It’s an epic multi. Congrats to him.”

PAFC. Forever.
