EAGLES
Woodville-West Torrens forward Andrew Ainger is likely to miss a fortnight with a hamstring strain as the Eagles prepare to host South at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval on Saturday.
The former Panthers spearhead tweaked the soft tissue muscle at training during the bye, ensuring he will miss Round 13 and possibly Round 14, against West Adelaide.
Ainger’s place in the 22-man squad has been filled by key utility Tom Whittlesea, who has been named on the four-man extended interchange bench.
Dual premiership veteran Luke Jarrad will return from a hamstring strain which sidelined the left-footer in Round 11.

SOUTH
Much-improved South Adelaide midfielder Nic Schwarz has returned to the squad to face the Eagles at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval on Saturday.
A late withdrawal for the Panthers’ win against Port last round, Schwarz has recovered from the quad ailment which prevented him from playing against the Magpies.
The mature-age on-baller has been joined by emerging forward Jackson McMahon in the 23-man squad, with McMahon collecting 20 disposals and three goals in the Reserves last weekend.
Such is South’s depth, reliable backman Alex Cailotto will resume from a minor ankle injury in the Reserves against the Eagles.

Good to see Schwarz back, has been very consistent this season. Some reasonable names in the reserves too, finally have a bit of depth.

Ainger ruled out is perhaps a blessing for WWT, rarely gets a kick against his former club. Jarrad on the other hand always seems to get plenty of it against South.

South won the Round 2 encounter comfortably, dominating the mid-field and running the eagles off their legs. Will be a much tighter contest this time around.

The match deserves 3000 but will probably get half of that. Really looking forward to it though.

Huge game for both clubs. The premiership ladder tells the story:

1. STURT......... 10 9 1 57.73 18
2. SOUTH........ 10 8 2 54.50 16
3. EAGLES......... 9 7 2 59.09 14
4. ADELAIDE...... 9 6 3 56.59 12
5. CENTRAL....... 10 6 4 53.50 12
6. NORTH.......... 11 4 7 49.23 8
7. GLENELG ......10 3 7 48.09 6
8. PORT .............11 3 8 46.10 6
9. NORWOOD... 10 3 7 42.47 6
10. WEST............ 10 1 9 36.27 2

Apart from losses against abnormally loaded reserves sides, the top three has only lost to each other. This game is definitely an important one so far as top spot is concerned. I think the Eagles are the goods atm, and should be too good for South on their home deck. With their massive percentage and games in hand, they are looking very dangerous as we go into the second half of the year.
South on the other hand are in unchartered territory. When was the last time they were so high on the ladder, so late in the season? I think they had a good year once during the 90's, before that, I think in about 1981 or so they finished third? In my age addled memory this is their best year since 1979 when they finished top IIRC.
Deserving of a massive crowd, will possibly get mid 2000s.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

I'm pretty sure they finished top (above the Eagles on %) in 1991.

Probably get about 2200 at best but agree, deserves more.
Will be interesting to see if the Eags have learnt from the first encounter where the didn't apply enough pressure on the ball or player.
Glad Ainger is not playing, he is a non-factor in muddy or wet conditions.

19 minutes in final quarter. South fighting back with 2 goals, but looks as though they're not doing enough.
8:10 to 6:5

Eagles win played three quarters today but got the win .
Goals to the port rd end only in the last quarter by the Eagles
South should have kicked goals to that end in the first they got 5 points
Not sure if that's happened in a game before

But a win is a win

Very annoyed at half time as the game was going in a similar vein to the one at Hick earlier in the year- Eagles off to a good start then South controlling the game in the second quarter to lead at half time. Apparently paint was stripped off the walls in the Eagles rooms at half time and the third quarter was a terrific response with the Eags lifting their intensity and becoming a lot cleaner to dominate. South challenged in the last quarter but couldn't sustain it. Best for the Eags Petrenko along with Borholm, Von Bertouch, Thompson and Hall. Not annoyed now - bit pissed in fact!

Difficult game to watch, devoid of highlights. Flashbacks to the ultra defensive 2015 South Adelaide.

Smashed after half time by a much better WWT side. I50s went 56-25 to the home side, no surprise that South's best were the likes of Rose, Crabb, Durdin. When Eddy goes goal-less and gets most of his kicks at half back we have problems.

Only 2 goals kicked to the Northern end, both coming in the final term, despite there being very little breeze.

Wouldn't mind seeing 3 or 4 changes at the selection table this week. Overall surely comes in after another solid performance in the twos.

Crowd wasn't too bad for an Eagles v South game. Eagles have a few good initiatives/incentives for the kids.

Was very surprised that Trembath was the out for Schwarz. Thought if anything Heaslip would have gone back

Irra isn't fit and I think Haren needs a run in the twos

Yep agree Keefy.

Think there might be a few changes next week after some performances not up to par after this game.

Ressies pressuring the league team.

Darrou in next week might be a good option.
