Remeber when we lived up in Peterborough, a house on the next street (dust track) caught fire and being all wood, was going up like a bonfire. My dad jumped out of bed and ran down the street to see if he could help only to realise he hadn't put any strides on. He was stood there in the crowd just in his underkecks.

Not exactly stupid but definitely embarrassing.

When I was an apprentice engineer a work mate used to give me a lift to and from work. Then he had a stroke and was off work for weeks. One day I was in the yard emptying the swarf bin when he drove up. I went over to him and he wound down the car window. I was aking him how he was doing and when was he coming back to work. When he answered he had a severe speech impediment. (A freind of my dad had this affliction after a stroke so I had seen it before). I asked him if he was coming onto the shopfloor to see the lads and he said he was but would have to go and park up and then go to the office 1st but would be in to see everyone after.

As he drove round to the front of the building to park, I nipped back onto the shopfloor, gathered the lads around and warned them that Roy was here and that the stroke had left him with a really bad speech impediment.

When Roy finally came onto the shopfloor, and we gathered to meet him he spoke perfectly normal. The lads thought I was taking the piss and didn't see the funny side of it. I tried to explain that I wasn't joking but no one believed me until Roy stepped in and said that he had been suckinig an Everton mint when he saw me outside.

another stupid thing ive done:

was having a few quiet drinks @ my mates house, and i stepped inside to go to the loo, and asked him whether i turn left or right. he said to go right. for some reason [could be alcohol related] i turned left, and fell down a flight of stairs.

sprained knee & ankle, and bad bruising on my ribs and back...lesson learnt.

Which lesson?

Listen to directions closer? Or, don't get drunk?
