Our team would not exceed 29 points. I suppose it goes to show that recruiting the right people who are top blokes and want to be around the club for years is the way to go. They are out there and we were lucky enough to get a bunch of them.

Bloody hell...how does that work? Is that because of the previously mentioned more-recent recruits?
That's evened up the comp beautifully...

Can we have some clarification on "Every player starts with 1 point"

I assume that means every player has 1 point, then you add on the import points, therefore an AFL =7, SANFL = 5, Div 1 Amateur = 4, HFL = 3, Affiliated League = 2, Local = 1

Therefore you are underestimating the points. Am I reading that wrong?

Interesting that the HFL make it more difficult to move between clubs within the Hills than to move between leagues

Every year off footy is minus a point as well. So if French has missed two years of AFL footy then he would be worth 1 (standard) + 4 (AFL 6 - 2 for years off) 5 Total.

JQ - yes and will be simlar next year as recruits this year will not drop any pts

AM - yes every players starts with 1 pt & then add the extra eg AFL 1pt + 6 addtional pts

Gimp - i was of the understanding that they had to be out of the game for 4 yrs and then they were droped 3 pts

well i reckon most of those estimates are too low. Ironbank on saturday was 34pts - only 1 below the limit. However, next year the same side would only be worth 26 pts.

JQ i reckon all these estimations would back up our point that the points system isn't going to implement the even playing field so many people think it is! If anything the Uraidla's, Ironbank's and Mt Lofty's are in a position where total domination for the next 5 years could occur! Mt lofty especially are in a position to be unbeatable with the length of service of so many of their imports! Looks like we weren't so narrow minded after all!

Yeah, cheers.
I did cop a fair spray from a couple on here, and now that it's been nutted out, doesn't seem like (short-medium term at least) that it will have a positive impact.
I'm also keen to see how determined the HFL will be in checking up the history of EVERY imported player at EVERY club in both divisions.
I wasn't trying to talk out of my a#se at all, and that seems to have become more apparent.

Not sure if it is fact or not, but there has been some talk that the amount of points a club has to play with will depend on their finishing position this year. For example the top 3 get 28 points, middle 4 get 32 points and bottom 3 get 35 points. Apparently this will be done to speed up the effect that the point system will have, but could be rumour at this stage.

Wow - some hot debate!

IMO, clubs will just have to get smarter with the terms offered to players in contracts.

I understand that recruiting 5+ ex AFL/SANFL/Ressie players in 1 year would be fairly pointless under the new system. The key would be retaining recruits and building year on year.

I'd be structuring contracts so that players received back-ended, performance based payments whereby players receive a bonus in their 2nd and 3rd year, thus rewarding loyalty. Obviously a performace escape clause would be required, which could bcome very subjective, but would be vital to the effectiveness of these types of contracts.

For example if you cop a Trent Ordinary Allen or Su(ck)djai Cook, you can just piss them off after year 1 and start again. Sure you're points problem isn't solved, but if the contract was structured right (say $200 per game in year 1 + $2,000 bonus in June following year for sticking around if they're worth it, £300 per game in year 2 + $2,000 bonus in June following year, etc, etc) then you don't waste $600 on a cash grabbing club slut who wants to take your clubs money and run.

The benefit would come in year 2 and 3 when good players have stuck around, sure they cost more, but they're consuming 1 less point, and providing stability and potentially also the means to recruit further quality players.

Sorry for the long boring post!

Here we go...let's just have league officials delegate which imports go where...
I hope that's only a rumour...
