Going by the HFL meeting on Monday night the majority if definitely FOR the points system - at least 80% believe it will be much better than the "salary cap".

50/50 - you're dreaming!!

I meant on this forum.

Think you'll find he's from one of the better performed on the field and best run clubs from a social side in the league JQ. So kind of ruins your elongated dribble from before.

I don't agree with you because clubs which do work hard off the field and do build up a solid financial base will still be advantaged because they can get the better recruits still with their money. eg. A Floreani would cost a team 4 points but he would still go to the club who are prepared to pay him $500 or wateva he wants. In this case that would be lofty because no other club could afford him. Just means clubs will have to be careful with who they recruit and have to find ones that compliment their local talent. I don't see how Mt Lofty would be disadvantaged too much as alot of your players have played juniors there!

Can anyone post on here how many points players would get. AFL = 4 etc and then people on here can work out how many points their clubs A grade would be fielding this week.

Mop Up - didn't realise you were OKO's spokesperson.
If you thought my POINT OF VIEW was elongated dribble, it was about half the amount of OKO's.
I take on board the argument that recruiting will have to be smarter.
I guess one of my gripes is the timing...most leagues have had struggling clubs and strong clubs, that's the way footy works.
And smart recruiting still has a place with the way things are now. Some recruits that don't cost as much as others, have been well worth it.
Was this not thought of years ago or what? What about when Loby, Mt Barker and Hahndorf had about 8 out of 10 flags between them and Lofty and Bridgey hung around near the bottom of the league? Were there evening up suggestions then, or more along the lines of my argument?

Alot of the recruits would be going into there 4th year at the club next year. eg. trig, wait, gordon. Does this mean they will be classed as locals and therefore only take up 1 point?

ono jq has been at a club which struggled and then built up. he is sometimes one of the locals missing out yet still plays at the club and never said a bad word about the recruits. if the system came in lofty would be majority locals as said before, trig, wait n others wouuld have been there for 4 yrs and should only be 1 point. this will just show how clubs can recruit well. they may only be able to get 2 good players to come to the club. regardless of what happens, the clubs that can keep their players will be the better. such as a lofty at the moment. if trigg n others are 1 point locals which they deserve as they have been there for a while, they will be able to recruit better players like florentini as they have the room in the point system. once again in this case money wont be an issue coz there is no salary cap. so now its a money issue again.

That's something I brought up weeks ago as well. Clubs that now have good recruits that have been there a few years, I guess should have them on pretty minimal points.
Doesn't this disadvantage the lower ranked clubs for a few years still?

Proposed points are as follows:
All players start with 1 point.
If they have played the following in their previous year:
AFL - 6pts
SANFL, VFL, WAFL - 4pts
Reserves - 3pts
Amateur Div 1 - 3pts
Under 19 - 2pts
Amateur Div 2-4 - 2pts
HFL (another club) - 2pts
Affiliated League - 1pt

Each year a player is at the club 1 point drops off.
If a players has played any junior grade at the club then do not attract any other points (other than the standard 1 point).

Spokesperson! :? What you talking about Willis? Just cos I agree with him doesn't make me his spokesperson
And the reason i called it dribble was because although it wasn't as long as OKO, most of it was about OKO being from a poor club which is untrue and so thus it was called "dribble".
I understand your argument about it not being implemented back then but I guess the money wasn't as big back then. But once again I don't think it will disadvantage you guys at all cos of your having played juniors for the club and also been there foer a while. Which backs up OKO's point of recruiting club people of which obviously Trezenski etc are!!

we will (to begin with) be disadvantaged from the pts system as we only had a major recuiting drive this year, so next year should the recruits be kept they will not have dropped any pts except for Bentley & Butchard (who are playing in their 2nd season)

No, the coin wasn't AS big, but it's all relative.
But Lofty I think are pretty lucky to have a solid mix of recruits and locals, Uraidla and Ironbank (less imports) too. It's a patch that most clubs go through.
I just think a points system could be a bit of a headache come selection time, and people aren't 'necessarily' going to be picked on merit or time spent on the track, but rather points that can be afforded for that game. THAT will turn blokes off, IMHO.

JQ - do you think the imports are gonna be happy about missing out on a game because the recuitment panel screwed up

should it be that you can only recuit 14pts worth and this is to be submitted to the HFL before round 1, 2008?

should an import be injured thats just bad luck bring in a local a/b grade fringe player

It all depends how much a club is allocated at the start of a year, and how many points are allocated for a game.
Does anyone know the allocation of points that will have to be abided by each game?

You can recruit as many as you like - but you can only play 35 (proposed) on match day. B grade doesn't count. I would be very surprised if there would be "points" players missing out every week. At the most I think it might happen once or twice for some of the higher clubs each year - by the time injuries, illness and work etc. takes it's toll.

point taken, but say for instance come round 1 you have everyone available and your total points = 38

you would have to drop 1 maybe 2 players to get down to 35 pts, what would you do??

A) play them in the B Grade
B) Drop them
either way i'm sure they would want some $$ (unless they are good club ppl)

Last week, going by this points system and the fact a player is reduced by one point every year they are at the club, Mt Lofty played with a total of 29 points.
14 locals @ 1
1 import @ 1
5 imports @ 2
1 import @ 4
Interesting to note that there were only 2 so called imports who didnt play last week, but coincedently only take 1 point each due to the amount of years they have spent at the club.

From what I can work out IB best possible team would be equal to around 30-31 points.
