HAWTHORN midfielder Brad Hill has been charged with assault following an investigation into an alleged altercation during the pre-season.

The midfielder, who was charged on Tuesday, notified the Hawks at the time and has not been penalised separately by the club.

The alleged incident occurred on January 24.

"Bradley has kept the club informed throughout this entire process," Hawthorn football manager Chris Fagan said in a statement.

"The leadership group has already met on this matter and has decided that no sanction will be applied at this stage.

"The matter is now before the court and any sanction is in the hands of the judicial system."

The Hawks, who would not comment further on the matter, said Hill had cooperated fully with police.

The alleged incident reportedly occurred between a man and three other people at Narre Warren, a suburb in Melbourne's outer south-east.

Victoria Police confirmed last month that a 21-year-old man was treated for minor facial injuries as a result of the alleged incident.

Brad Hill assaulting someone, there is a headline I never thought I'd see. Runs away from his own shadows on the field[emoji1]

Don't pick up the rug at AFL HQ, you'll find Hodgeys DUi charge and Hill's assault charge swept under there.

The Hawks leadership group decided to take no action against Hill, is that right?

Don't think they have rugs at AFL HQ... It's all Lino, makes the shit easier to clean up.

Hill would have to be on very thin ice. Unsure about a club imposed sanction, but the situation probably warrants one.

North Melbourne give Turner 4 weeks for Drink Driving while Hodge gets none.
Port Adelaide give Krakouer 4 weeks for being the victim of an unprovoked King-Hit, Hill gets nothing.

I've had an opportunity to give the Hill situation a little more thought...and while I don't know all the facts surrounding the incident, the Hawthorn response, so far at least is certainly at odds with that of the rest of the competition as pointed out by Woodubelieve12.

Teflon Hawks and all that...

Why?

I don't know. Clearly other clubs when faced with these types of situations send very clear messages to the player, the fans (both of the club & opposition), and the broader community what is an acceptable standard for an AFL Player. At times I reckon players (all of them not just Hill) get a raw deal, in that IF they were general members of the community, they would not have to face such public comment & ridicule. Then again they are role models... I get it.

To be honest, Hill's form warrants a few weeks at Box Hill anyway, so they could still do that if they wanted too.

Would think Hill needs to be proven guilty before the Hawks should do anything about him. What happens if he gets off?

I guess so Jim, I've not read up on the incident. It just comes more or less hard on the heels of the other situation involving him. Smoke & Fire I believe. Something ain't right with the bloke.

He got for assault - let the law deal with him accordingly, not Hawthorn.

Yes the legal situation plays out as it would & should. But why not club sanction? It seems to be the done thing nowadays!

Think these two parts are probably have something to do with why he isn't being sanctioned now for the incident - he was up front pre-season when it happened, Hawks have known about it since then.. would look pretty poor if now that charges have finally been laid they sanctioned him - should've sanctioned him at the time if there was need.

Ok I was unaware of that part. I didn't read back far enough - my bad - Point taken.

This. He's been ordinary for a large chunk of this year, and has been a liability in at least 3 games. All those salty opposition fans screaming for sanctions against him may actually regret it if they do :)

If Hill worked for Telstra would they penalize him? No. Yet footy clubs always do.

Is there ever a head line of the hospital visits these guys do? The amazing work with kids they undertake? Or the charity hours they put in off they're own back? Of course not that doesn't sell papers.

Note*** I have no idea of what Hill actually did to be charged but with this being said my above point still stands.
