SREESANTH your a marked man

Postby mal » Tue Jul 31, 2007 4:44 pm

Young Indian fast bowler has in my views disgraced himself in the Test arena
During Englands 2nd innings in the 2nd test v India, 2 incidents eventuated

Bowling at enigmatic England batsman Kevin Pieterson Sreesanth
bowled a head height beemer at KP which narrowly missed hitting KP
The young fast bowler aplogised to KP, but there was an element of doubt
in my opinion whether the beemer was intentional.

2nd and a very disgusting instance occurred when bowling at Paul Collingwood
Sreesanth bowling around the wicket bowled a bouncer at Collingwood and was no balled.
Replays showed he overstepped the front creaseline by about one YARD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am about 90% sure this was a pre meditated action.
The commentary team were not impressed, I was disgusted.

What comes around goes around.

He was fined for a different incident (yes another one!) for shoulder charging Michael Vaughan.

That is a very good point. If the bowler was actually intending to hit his head and missed it would be like trying to hit the side of a barn from 22 yards and missing

Seriously a beamer is poor form but overstepping and bowling a bouncer is fair game IMO. The West Indies were one of the most fearsome and intimidatory bowling attacks of all time but no-one questions that. They used physical intimidation as a weapon i don't see how this is different. Before people say that they did it within the rules fine but in this case the bowler was penalised don't forget that.

I don't think that anyone goes out there to bowl a beamer on purpose, but with other antics from Sreesanth, you don't know. Although he did apologise immediately, so you can only give him the benefit of the doubt. The other stuff from him seems to me he is following in the footsteps of Andre Nel.

SC
the beamer ????
the no ball yard over bouncer BAD
he also bowled a no ball bouncer the delivery before that delivery as well.

Strangely JONES/FLINTOFF/HARMISON are not playing
SREE is like his team a frontrunner
India is the Fremantle of world cricket

I hope TAITY + BINGA saw it last night

mal, winners are grinners and the rest can please themselves. Sree is winning currently and if his methods are successful good luck to him. I don't think any of the Australian bowlers need to be watching because they already have their own methods that are well and truly successful.

Looking at the delivery on the News it didn't look deliberate to me. Its fairly easy for that type of delivery to "slip out" such as the one that Craig McDermott bowled to get his first test wicket, and also i remember Glenn Trimble on his debut bowling some rubbish beamers as well. Those blokes may have been suffering from nerves, and this Indian bowler may not be playing his first test (i dont know much about him), but to me, as i said, it didn't look deliberate.

I read in a book which escapes me right now that when Gladstone Small was playing for South Australia he was deliberately bowling 2-3 yards over the crease to try and hit an opposition player who was pissing off the team that day.

With all the PROTECTIVE equipment that Batsmen wear these days its very unlikely that any batsmen would get hurt anyway except KP getting hit in the ribs. So whats the BIG deal??????????
If Taity or Lee bowled a Beamer, we'd just say it slipped and if they Bowled a yard over the crease we,d say good on em, whatever it takes to get the batsmen pissed off within the rules is fair enough though its not a sporting thing to do But that is what Australia have been good at over the years and what made them World champions so if the Fragile Indian team start employing the same tactics, I Say "Good on em".

I don't blame the bowler for using the laws of the game to his advantage at all. If he wants to overstep to intimidate then he's welcome to do so if he doesn't mind conceding the run. Doubt the beamer would be deliberate. If he was to bowl one deliberately, and then one later accidently then he'd be out of the attack for the innings.

Personally, I think they should change the no ball rule. Bring in some sort of electronic system to call even the slightest no ball each time so there's not one missed. Then the umpires can worry about LBW decisions and the like without shifting his focus from one crease to another. I also think the penalty should be increased to something seriously prohibitive like 5 runs and a free hit off the next ball as well. There is no excuse for bowling them and the penalty is so light it's laughable. Bowlers don't need to do it and I think the game would be better if overstepping was basically umpired out of the game.

Whoopie bloody do. Your England loving attitude makes me retch. Stuff the Poms. Hang yer friggin head. Any bowler who isn't accurate enough to hit KP's oversized ego inflated bonce is hardly test standard anyway. Good to see your mob get flogged by a team that would be lucky to beat the Redbacks on foriegn soil. Zaheer Khan but the Poms bloody Khant. Worst second ranked side EVER.

Agree with what your saying generally Mal but Brett Lee is still out in front for bowling beamers.
