Port Adelaide 2016

Talk on the national game

Re: Port Adelaide 2016

The AFL and Port obviously needed the support of the government to have a home and away game played in the world’s most populous country, where Port have formed a lucrative arrangement with a Chinese property developer, Gui Goujie, who is pouring millions into Port Adelaide over the next three years through his company, Shanghai Cred.

I'm trying to find out how many millions...

Flights to China are about 12 hours, I would hate to be the team that has to travel there .Surely the AFL would have to make it a Friday game and then give them a 10 day around for their next game

It will be played in one of the mid season break rounds, so yes, likely a 10-12 day break after the game.

Would have to ensure both teams have the bye the following week.

I heard a Chinese whisper that they're changing their name to Sweet & Sour Port.

Great idea as long as another club doesn't have to give up a home game for it.

So fly out before the first split round, play the second split round, have the third one off. Works a treat.

So fairfax media is reporting Port has said it wont give up a home game so which team you think they'll butter up with loads of cash to sacrifice one of their home games for the journey? Brisbane? St Kilda? Carlton? Melbourne?

Why not? You're talking about one of the most advanced & wealthiest countries in the world.

Because we can't even get a team in Tasmania :)

It's not about expanding the game.

It's about Port securing themselves Sponsorship dollars and also helping to put south Australia on the map in China putting themselves in a positive light with the state government

Port mentioned this deal at annual sport and rec confrence held on Monday.

They mentioned that the deal is hopefully going to expand to chinese companies potentially building relationships with South australian companies etc

They worded it alot better than me on my phone lol

Pleasing thing also, is the willingness to explore the unknown and think outside the box - we've seen NT, TAS and Canberra used as possible promotion areas, but no one has really gone outside of established football areas.

Have admired the ambition of the current regime at Port and this new venture sees that continue. Been ticking a lot of boxes off-field for a few years now.

This is the bit I don't agree with. I'm all for Port expanding their base but it needs to be at the expense of one of their home games

Only the ones with no members.
I'd suspect it will be Melbourne or the Dogs
