Make that the top 5 sides now that IB have slid down to 5th behind the Woods. Counting the Woods having 4 senior teams of course (not officially a HFL Central "C grade")

I reckon it's not a co-incidence, just good management on the part of those clubs in that they are committed to keeping their players and are willing to provide for that to happen. Good signs of a really healthy club player-wise.

Would be good to see Jarred McDonald win a Mail Medal. He played his junior football at Callington; good thinker, excellent leader, very committed. Substance-free when temptation was all around and scrupulously fair. When he was around 13, it was forseeable that he'd win one some day.
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.

I heard that next year Blackwood are thinking of dropping their Country division sides and replacing them with 1 C grade side.....may cause them to lose a few members with too many missing out on a game every week, but should provide a welcome relief for all the volunteers and the oval will get a rest also. It would probably give them a better opportunity of winning in both grades in Central aswell. Thoughts??

Correct weight on all accounts there Tanka, have heard the rumour also... makes sense, as with the departure of cattle to SFL this year (near on a dozen blokes) their results have not been anywhere near as strong as usual (especially in Country Div).

I wonder if downsizing was an intentional exercise OR is this a result of the Pres's actions late last year (finals debacle etc.)?

I wouldn't be too surprised by that, none of the sides are dominating.
Not sure if there'll be as much sponsorship $$ that way either next year.

Just on tips for this week, have to say that if Onkas can starve Uri's of the ball anywhere near like they did to the Thunderers last week (albeit only for 1 quarter) they will put themselves in a good position to be the first cabbage topplers this year... being @ their home deck wont hurt either.

Nah really I'm just pumping them up so they read this, go in confident & hopefully lose!

I agree Tanka it would certainly make them alot stronger; i hadn't heard that rumour but i think it would be in the best interest of the club to do so; would be very interesting to see how much they actually improve in central div??

Also what happened last year with their pres. 2slow? Im not in the know....

Last year there was some contraversy surrounding their Central Div reserves side playing un-qualified players in a final (first semi I think?), winning the game only to have it taken away upon Uri's protesting to the HFL mid-week (consequently exiting the finals).

The Pres alledgedly had a signed letter fom Big O giving permission to play these guys (but not official permits) & it snowballed from there... end result was The Woods Pres stating that he was taking his club elsewhere (SFL/Amatuers).

I'm not trying to imply this is the reason for any unrest or off field decision making, however it was said to have thrown the cat amongst the pigeons up there, the way it was all handled etc. & they did lose quite a few players at years end.

Just heard from the "Lobethal hairdresser" that in the battle at the bottom Lobethal did it for the Coach. Birdwood still looking for a win, can you confirm Rooster ?

IB win by about 20 goals put cannot give exact scores as Scoreboard not updated after three qte time. Not sure why as they had plenty of spare players doing nothing in last qtr after two players sent off with red cards.

Looking forward to hearing from Bridgewater followers as would be fair to say you are not travelling that well. Club Coach and Captain choosing to go to pub instead of club does not appear to be healthy signs. I won't start about your facilities in regards to food and drink options.

I also doubt your paid players would have been putting the hand out this week for the dollars.

As for the snipers who got reported, I hope they enjoy the next few weeks watching the football from the sidelines, perhaps they can man the scoreboard.

Gee nothing changes, red cards at Bridgewater. I thought the timekeepers changed the scores there or couldn't they give a damn ?

cannot confirm... i'm OS at the moment, and haven't had my sources from Birdwood update me yet... dissapointing if true, but certainly not the end of the world. i still maintain this is the best bunch of lads i've ever played with, and win lose or draw they'll all be back next season, hopefully + some, ready for another crack! its gonna take plenty to break this clubs spirit.

IB 24-18 defeated B'Water 7-8. Too quick, too classy and better use of the ball around the ground sums up the game. Name players for Bwater gave nothing...Kluzek yellow card for abusing Umpire at one stage then spent most of the game talking to opposition players and crowd. Noted not too shake hands with opposition players after the game as well. Gatto unsighted. Summerill and Nieuwenhuizen both red carded in last qtr and would expect will miss games. Franz in the ruck battled hard all day for them but few contributors overall. No Donnelly/Bevelander but doubt they would have made much difference. IB had winners all over the ground. IB B Grade won 27-21 to 2-7 so a bleak day overall at senior level for Bridgewater although they did have a win in the Under 17's.

It would be interesting to see how many on the track this week for them as lots of players looked disinterested in the game. Birdwood a chance maybe. Two big games coming up this week, IB vs Uraidla and B'Wood vs Mt Barker with results having a big impact on final five.

So over to you Ron for assessment of your club and its future.

Nairne beating Mt Torrens would have to be the upset of the year so far.

Guitink kicking 17 for Kangarilla is a fair effort, had 8 at qtr time, 13 at half time. Was then moved to CHF, and then dragged during the last qtr, leaving him on 95 for the season.

Bridgewater have done worse, they had that many players sent off with red cards that the game was abandoned during the final quarter due to the lack of Bridgey numbers on the field. I think it was against Onkas or Lobethal a couple of years back.
