This Saturday against your Mob (Maccy) we have our 97 Premiership Reunion. Half of that side are still playing today which shows outstanding club loyalty, but also perhaps we have a lot of blokes on the wrong side of 30! Bergman, Bettison, Costello, Hughes, Hurst and MacDonald are still running around in the Twos and Levett, M.Scott, Paues, Wake and Westley are still putting their bodies through the rigors of 'A' grade footy. Reckon the only Maccy player still playing from that GF is the old prez Darren Wallace.

What would have been disappointing for the Meadows club would have been the fact that most of the 'apologies' were from people who still live in the area and for whatever reason decided not to go.
Far as Maccy's 97 side goes, Scott Heinicke and Adam Searl are still playing in the reserves and Adam probably shouldn't be playing at all due to having a knee recon on both knees and unfortunately he was never the same player even after the first recon. Of that side OTTOMH, 2 players now live in Darwin, one in England, one playing for Strathalbyn, one playing for Kingston, two retired in '99 at 25 and 23 years of age respectively, Grant Axon now retired, Alex Corbett retired a couple of years ago, Brad Champness moved to Onka Valley after that season, Ian Willmott played up 'til the end of '99, Kamprod retired a few years ago and I can't quite remember the last 5 or 6 players but it's fair to say that we may have had the largest number of players play a match in the hills league since that '97 season.

Scotty Randell I forgot is still playing 'A's for Kersbrook and Brandon Burdett for Maccy I reckon played in that GF too. 5 off those Kersbrook Blokes have played over 200 games for the Club, and another 3 have reached the 300 mark. Fair to say I reckon our Club has more blokes that have played out their careers at the one Club, than any other HFL Club.

Reports are scarce in the hills and have been for a long time. I must admit though, from what I've seen, as the standard has lifted the game has gotten cleaner. You could bank on a dirty snipe or biffo just about every week a few years back.

I agree with you there JQ the game has become a lot cleaner in recent times. I think you are right about the standard affecting this but could it also be the affect the AFL rules/tribunal system has an impact. I know we don't go the whole hog with rule changes eg. look at the push in the back rule now compared to the start of the season in HFL. But I think there is a connection that changes in the AFL to what is happening on HFL ovals. :)

Cougar,
A couple of pages back you asked if anyone was reported in our game against TV. Yes Battams was reported for allegedly striking an umpire (Trevor Mcdonald). Trevor was sporting a black eye after the game. This will be an interesting tribunal as this bloke got 8 or 9 weeks a couple of years ago for numerous offences including threatning to Kill the Presidenta. If he is guilty he should go for a long time perhaps a life ban. I didnt see the incident but that is as serious as it gets. This should spark some healthy discussion.

I knew Battams is a dirty little sniper, but to snipe an umpire?!?!? Always thought he was and you've just confirmed he is a Meat Head.

More importantly, why is The Real TM umpiring in the Country Division. He is our best umpire and should be back in Centrals. Then we can boot that Little Twerp TM out of the Central umpiring ranks and back to juniors where he belongs.

Hitting an ump is absolutely inexcusable.

I reckon Amateur Footy can join Battams in the meat head category! As supporters/ players and an entire league we need to be supporting every umpire that wants to give it a shot! We are in a shortage of umpires as it is due to idiots like yourself!

For once I agree with SnB. One of those TMs is pretty close to retiring and with Meat Heads like Battams around, probably sooner rather than later I would suggest. We need as many younger blokes coming through, to improve the standard of umpiring and save HFL clubs finding some poor bloke to do the 'B' grade each week. As I've mentioned before Neville Clarke, Trevor Edwards, Trev MacDonald, Ian Plummer and Pat Lundie aren't getting any younger.

Understand there is HFL board meeting tonight to discuss it, as I believe it's the first time a Club has forfeited ALL grades. Pretty quick to hear that one GD!?!?!

Their biggest cost of all GD will be their credibility. From what I've heard, they still seem to think it was all justified and don't want to discuss it. 8-9 sick players has grown to 19-20, depending on who you listen to. Hope the HFL will also touch on the subject of lost votes for a potential Brookers' Mail Medal winner, not to mention leading goal-kickers etc.

Dont be too surprised if Cally doesn't play this week. Apparently the league is meeting tonight to work out a punishment, but this is the least of their worries. Some players are training with former clubs tonight! Would be dispappointing if they pull the pin at this stage of the year

I suppose this will determine the $ factor v jumper LuvsFooty. No clearances for anybody at this stage of the year, so if it's a money issue they'll stay there. I think the crux of the matter seems to lie in the fact there wasn't enough consultation with stakeholders.

And then again, on the other side is the worry that the big O will be looking to thinkingly oblige his constituents in an election year by trying to get rid of the Eagles.

Oh, the politics of it all! Cally, you should've just done the gutsy country thing and put 21 on the park in the A's at least. Might've had a few kudos by tonight instead of the mess you're in.

Callington not finishing out the year could prove interesting with the top few teams so close, percentage could be what splits some teams.

Anyone know why Gumeracha B grade forfeited? Know if they will front up this week?
