I wonder if there'd be interest in an international one day comp with domestic sides competing? It could be an fa-cup style knock out. There'd be all the county sides, Indian league sides, nations that make up the windies etc. I'd like to see the disparity between sides and how many Australian teams make it through to the final 8. You could stage initial local knock outs to save the cost of sending potential rubbish halfway around the world to get hammered by Bombay for example. Maybe we'd be grouped in with the NZ domestic sides and a maximum of 6 sides could progress and compete against qualifiers from the African, sub-continent, and European pools. Perhaps we could include the Irish and Dutch national sides and similarly capable national sides.

They basically already tried that but in T20 with the Champions League tournament which was run by us, India & South Africa but it folded this year.

Yeah, I was aware of the T20. But that had teams invented just for that tournament, right? (I think it was also very popular, though I didn't get much time to watch it myself.)
It was Rusty's comment about the strength of NSW that got me thinking. Perhaps there should be a stage for these super elite domestic sides to prove their worth? I did a quick check on NZ domestic cricket and from what I understand they have 6 sides. (Auckland, Canterbury, Otago, Northern districts, Central Districts, and Wellington) so you'd have the 6 aussie sides play those 6 and the winners progress. Matches would be played all around the world over the course of a year. Could do the long format of the game at the same time.

No, the teams were sources from BBL and IPL and whatever the SAF equivalent is

Not that I was aware of they were all domestic teams that had qualified by being successful in their own domestic competitions. The Redbacks made it to the semi-finals in 2010, I think they lost to a South African team but the only Aus teams that ever won the tournament were the NSW Blues and Sydney Sixers. It was popular initially but too IPL focused, the tournament heavily favoured the Indian IPL teams more of their teams were allowed to qualify and when other countries domestic teams qualified for the CLT20 star players had to play for their IPL teams.

I can't remember exactly but I think Kieron Pollard was with the Redbacks at the time and had to play for his IPL team in the tournament.

And the NZ, Sri Lanka and West Indies comps. Eventually England started to send teams (I remember one English team was coached by Langer) and I think Pakistan might've also had a team or two involved too.

Right, I see. Sixers, Strikers etc are all T20 teams that never existed before that format of the game was born. I think.
I didn't realise how many tournaments there were for that format. I just got back from 13 years overseas last year so a lot of my knowledge is from yesteryear. Anyway, I think a 1 day or 4 day comp based on the traditional sides would circumnavigate the IPL problems that Gozu talked about.

Seemed like a cool concept but yeah it was probably ruined by the fact that most players played for both a local team and an ipl team and the ipl teams got dibs

The problem with ODI's and domestics is that they only come in to scrutiny 2 years out from a World Cup these days. The last 10 years ODI series are getting worse and worse, however elite international 20/20 matches to me haven't gained any ground......

They almost have to make the call, piss of either 50 over or 20 over games all together. We all know what will win.....

I have actually been really enjoying this series. Great chance to actually see the young talent on display before we blood or recycle our 4 or 5 new Test players this Summer. Obviously disappointing they didn't show the second dig last night and haven't televised every Redbacks game but all in all it's been good. I like the 9.30 starts and the lively opening spells and I'm loving how competitive the comp has been.

Most of all the commentary has been like old times. Complimenting the play and adding to the pictures not the self absorbed wank fest of messers Warne, Healy, Slater and of course that **** Brayshaw. No ones trying to out do, out yell, one up, and all the other juvenile over the top crap where the crickets secondary to the side show.

Well done Chappelli, Moody and co. I don't need 7 hours of the footy show when the cricket is on. The crickets been good and the commentators have let it do the talking just like the great R Beneud would. I hope this trend continues for the Summer. Arc up the circus for 20/20, that's fine but otherwise I hope we are seeing a new direction.

I'm also having a red hot run on the punt went I'm not cashing out on the Redbacks. :)
