Be done with it and join the SAAFL.
LGIL , Let me get this correct, Sat in the SFL will only see A and B grade games or is it our Sunday comp teams?
This is a SANFL request? A competition that is struggling and comes up with this instead of restructuring the SANFL.
Again an opportunity for leadership!!!
U/18 is not in scope (it is U/16 and down). It was mentioned that the games could still run on Saturdays but would be programmed independently (as teams would likely be playing against teams with seniors outside of the SFL as part of the equalization effort). Ie Noarlunga could be playing Hackham in the seniors, but due to the difference in junior strength, the U/14s could be playing Payneham Norwood Union and the U/16s be playing Flinders Park. Neither of these teams are likely to want to play on the Saturday so Sunday would be the default.
The SFL announced it at the most recent strategic meeting.
Stop providing good information LGIL and then undoing it with poor examples. Under the proposal, Noarlunga junior teams will only play against clubs in the SAFC zone so they can't play a PNU or FP unless they make the end of season play offs to determine the all metro champion team.
Not quite DTH, one of the key points was:
[*] Local competitions created for the youngest age groups with a focus on creating even competitions as finals and premiership points are introduced
So for the non competitive teams, yes you are right, Noarlunga junior teams will only play against clubs in the SAFC zone.
However, once finals and premiership points are introduced, the metro area becomes two regions (North/South) split up into 2 conferences each. The conferences are then graded (assuming with divisions) on ability to improve "the football experience for all junior and youth participants"
Go back to the SANFL Review of Junior Football in South Australia (
http://www.sanfl.com.au/email/website_Report.pdf),
Recommendation 13: "Organisers of junior football competitions must be encouraged to be flexible in determining both the structure of the competition, and also the conduct of any particular games..."
Recommendation 15: "Flexibility should be used in the application of the “Mercy Rule”."
Recommendation 21: "An independent governing body should be established consisting of an independent chairman, two JDL representatives, a representative from school football, a representative from the Game Development section of the SANFL, a representative from the Amateur League, and two other independent persons interested in junior football.
This body must be given the authority to determine JDL boundaries, playing rules and consistent age groupings."
Recommendation 26: "One of the first tasks for the JDL governing body must be to restructure the composition of the various leagues to establish a more even distribution of the clubs across the metropolitan area."
Recommendation 27: "Clubs should limit the number of players per team, but should be permitted to field more than one team at each age level provided that an even distribution of talent occurs across the teams at that level. Where there is an excess of players within one club, those players should be directed to another club where there is a shortage, and encouraged to move there."
Interestingly during the review they engaged the following organisations, but not the SFL, we have been included as an afterthought:
Junior District League Committee
Metro South Junior Football League
Metro West Junior Football League
Central District Junior Football League
North East Metro Junior Football Association
School Football SA Committee
Independent Schools of SA representatives
SA Amateur Football League
SANFL Umpiring Staff
Community Football
