DA ... Mt Lofty 22-13 d Dorfers 11-13. Magpies displayed plenty of spirit to dramatically improve on 215 point trouncing at last meeting. Devs missing Gordon, Mehta, Floreani, O'Gorman and Chapman. They did play in spurts, but the runners of Trzesinski, Wood, White, Cooper and Baldock held upper hand. Super Bs also won, but Hahndorf again put up a competitive effort considering they had to borrow 4 Senior Colts to actually make up 18 players.

Hey fellow IB people does anyone know if IB's best players given out on a sat night are just for presentations and don't contribute to B+F bcos surely Muffy was in top 2 yesterday. 30 possies and a goal. Tackled and chsed well. Surely up here! And many previous occasions where he has been top 2 but again not given anything! I think you'll find on alot of the cards in alot of games he wouldve polled votes.

Good to see the Birdwood B grade get their 4th win for the year, pretty resonable effort by them for first year in the new div, shows there is a bit of depth at the club... now when our A grade knock off Lobey next weekend, we'll have both our senior sides in the wins! Good to see young S.Muster (son of Ivan, ex-Norwood) play his first Agrade game at 16 years old and chip in with 2 goals.

Was pretty obvious that Lofty were missing some guns, and now not having Burch AND Matt Stapes for the remainder of the year makes it a bit harder to catch Uri's.
Credit to Hahndorf, but Lofty's turnovers at HF and near the goalsquare were lazy, as it was normally worked out of the backlines fairly well.
Hahndorf lacked a lot of direction and were never in it, except when i think the score was 1.1 to 0 for about 3 minutes, then Lofty booted about 7 thank crap, cos it was looking like a rank Sunday in Germantown.
Hahndorf have a pretty bloody big bloodnut who can take grabs and stood strong in their backlines when drifting back.
Wood and Trigger - still a class above. Don't stop running and just use the ball really well.
From what I've heard, expect Fleet in the B's for the remainder of the campaign.

Hey, hahndorf asked Kym Thyer & Geoff Lord to play Bs today to make up a side..if they can do it so can cally..

Hold your heads in shame you eagels..

I keep a bit of an eye on Hills footy and can't recall the last time a Hills A-Grade forfeited - that is astonishing they can't field ONE team from what is normally TWO teams. Did 21 players have the flu?? Unlikely. Having seen the Eagles here and there over the year, looks like things have changed a lot from the original days. Will it be the beginning of the end? Can they find the passion again to go on with it? Interesting to see what happens.

I always admire struggling clubs who manage to get their act together every week, no matter what the odds. I reckon the occasional Reserves forfeit is excusable when absolutely desperate, but to fail to field an "A" grade as well is astounding.
Your comment was interesting 'luv'sfooty'. I wonder how this decision was reached? Who made it; who was consulted? I know few players there these days, but bumped into one yesterday who promptly told me it was nothing to do with him and didn't know the reason. And if contracted players had trained twice and were prepared to play, they're entitled to be paid I suppose, regardless of how ridiculous the $ may be.
Someone off-field, but presumably in the know tells me the Brookers offer to play their A's against Cally's B's was rejected because the club didn't want the boys to get 'done like a dinner and demoralised'.
Well, what can you say? I can't think of a Hills Country club which hasn't respected sides who
make the effort. And being done in those circumstances is no big deal. I reckon the club probably didn't think of the ramifications of it all but too late now. Not sure about Cally's ability to have the passion to go on "The Whisper", as I'm not sure there was any or will be.
Reckon I might spend my gate money in future on clubs which are trying a bit harder!

Good win to the Raiders on the weekend

i admit i had my doubts whether we could play the big ground

Loby's delivery to their forwards was terrible. the players looked like they had no heart and there were only a handful of supporters there, no atmosphere what so ever. was one of the worst games i'd seen this year, due to the skill level and the lack of energy.

not sure whats going on at Loby, but they are in some serious trouble and i'm backing Birdwood to get their first win of the year this week.

Think that you have to field a side in the A grade regardless of the potential for a flogging.
Know that Maccy has been bagged a lot over the years, in a lot of cases fair enough too, but Maccy, like a lot of other clubs, always still has managed to put an A grade side on the park regardless of the probable result. A classic case was a game against Meadows that they played last year when the club had a horror injury run and was basically playing their B grade in the A grade and promptly suffered a huge loss.
This situation brings back memories of the time that Glandore forfeited in the A grade in A1 amatuers a few years back.
Don't know where Callington can go from here and it's going to be interesting to see what happens there in the offseason.

Went to the Meadows Football Club's 40 year reunion for their 1967 premiership on Saturday night and it was a good evening that seemed to be enjoyed by the players in that team that turned up for the night and it was a good band that played at the function that kept in the theme of "'60's" music.
Would have been disappointing for president Gary Dawe that a lot of (still) local people who played in that team didn't turn up for the evening but everyone who was there still seemed to enjoy themselves all the same.

I agree Mop up I thought it was the best game he has played for the club (Well 3 quarters, which is all anyone played). I believe the presentation 5 best is one card of 5 that goes to B&F votes, and I know he was top two on one other card at least.

Very disappointing last quarter, started at the break I thought, short sharp oration of kick two and we celebrate, break up early and listen to Collo for a further 5 mins, implore his charges for something more, that they delivered. :(

I think you may find with some contracted players that they do not receive best player awards when they get in the best, just a flat payment each game. Therefore would not be surprising to see some top players not getting in the coach's best 5 each week when he can give the cash to a player who otherwise would not have received anything.

ODB, Kersbrook also had a 67 Premiership Reunion a couple of weeks back and all bar 3 (2 deceased and 1 bad health) didn't make it back to the Club. They were also lucky enough to watch a good game (Kangarilla) in what has probably been the 'A' grades best performance so far.

This Saturday against your Mob (Maccy) we have our 97 Premiership Reunion. Half of that side are still playing today which shows outstanding club loyalty, but also perhaps we have a lot of blokes on the wrong side of 30! Bergman, Bettison, Costello, Hughes, Hurst and MacDonald are still running around in the Twos and Levett, M.Scott, Paues, Wake and Westley are still putting their bodies through the rigors of 'A' grade footy. Reckon the only Maccy player still playing from that GF is the old prez Darren Wallace.

What would have been disappointing for the Meadows club would have been the fact that most of the 'apologies' were from people who still live in the area and for whatever reason decided not to go.
Far as Maccy's 97 side goes, Scott Heinicke and Adam Searl are still playing in the reserves and Adam probably shouldn't be playing at all due to having a knee recon on both knees and unfortunately he was never the same player even after the first recon. Of that side OTTOMH, 2 players now live in Darwin, one in England, one playing for Strathalbyn, one playing for Kingston, two retired in '99 at 25 and 23 years of age respectively, Grant Axon now retired, Alex Corbett retired a couple of years ago, Brad Champness moved to Onka Valley after that season, Ian Willmott played up 'til the end of '99, Kamprod retired a few years ago and I can't quite remember the last 5 or 6 players but it's fair to say that we may have had the largest number of players play a match in the hills league since that '97 season.

from what ive been told JQ it was a far better effort than the earlier drubbing. but IMHO i see some lean years for hahndorf if we can't field 2 senior sides.

Can't agree with you less about your view on Wendelborne's injury Mop up. He got injured late in the 2nd quarter and after the long break you guys came out of the rooms and extended your lead from two goals to seven. Even if Chris Naughton was playing i don't think it would have made a huge difference, Ironbank lost the game in the midfield, not up forward i don't have access to centre clearance stats but did you guys win one in the last quarter? Very dissapointing considering all of the Money and/ or recruits are in this sector of the ground in Muffy, Hare, Howes & Exelby!

Definitely not time to write the ironbark mob off just yet! I still strongly believe they could be the team to bring Uraidla's winning streak to a halt at the small confines of their home deck!

And from a neutral supporters opinion i was disgusted to see the umpire NOT pull out a card for Nick Smart in the third quarter! The umpire clearly viewed a Hay maker which he threw connect with Howes to the point where he gave a free kick down the ground but did not pull out a card! Why do some players namely the leagues best, often get special treatment? Surely this angered Ironbank players, especially when Nick Smart played such an important role in the final quarter!

SNB...because report = have to come back into HFL HQ during the week from home = rather not.
Reports are scarce in the hills and have been for a long time. I must admit though, from what I've seen, as the standard has lifted the game has gotten cleaner. You could bank on a dirty snipe or biffo just about every week a few years back.
