Interesting article in local paper this week re Blackwood in which the Pres Dave Benson confirms that they have no intention of returning to the SFL as they are very happy in the Hills Comp.

Also goes onto say that they are seeking funding for new lighting of the oval, I wonder whether they are contemplating night games ??

Blackwood, Uraidla, Ironbank, Bridgy & Mt Lofty

personally i think there is only going to be 2 close games (onkas vs ironbank & Loby vs Bridgy)
the rest should be easy wins, unless Mt Barker can produce something special

Blackwood cant return to the sfl because they have never been in it in the first place.were in glenelg/south which changed is name to southern metro b4 folding in the mid 80's.what a laugh if the president doesnt even know the origin of his club

Fair to say Benson is a peanut!(and a cheapshot artist as well).

I believe it's on 1125 5MU - the Murray Bridge radio station. I think the football talk starts about 9 with the HFL-country division on first then the Central division comes on about 9.30ish.

ha, cheers lads, yeah should be a good day out in the dorf on sunday, just try to get a kick. reckon last time i played out there in the 1's i dislocated my jaw, DA would remember he drove me to the hospit..

TWE, yeah mate, debut for this yr. ive played about 80 A's games all up.

read that about benson in the blackwood messenger?? a week ago, and he is a deadset dropkick, he suits that club..

as far as upsets go id say bridgy may get up, but prob not on that oval, but if barker are playing at uri this week they will get reminded why there not yet even in the 5. uris by 15 goals.

Stupid Sunday games.
Depending how muddy Pine Lane is, Lofty obviously to win that.
Blackwood by 100
Uraidla by 7 goals...Barker will have heavy legs after back-to-back slogs at the mudpit.
Onkas cos it's at home
And Lobey cos Hibberd won't be held.

Preditions for the weekend:
Blackwood, Lofty, Uraidla, Onka's, Bridgewater
I dont think Uri's will win by the margin alot of people are predicting; im certainly not suggesting a win for MtBarker but anythings possible......
I spoke breifly about Onka's B grade being in the finals race in my last post and was met with rebuttal, however im sticking to my guns; i honestly believe they will win this week, early in the season we had 8 or 9 injuries in the A's after round 1 so i wouldn't be too hasty to judge based on their early form, they are the only team to beat lofty B's in a season and a half i believe, surely that says something (this will certainly be a big test though).
HUGE game this week for our A grade - alot has been said already about this one, i think the oval will suit both teams, its in good nick so i expect it will be a fast with plenty of run. Everyone at the club is pretty excited for this one as it will be pretty season defining. Bing it on IB and GO you Doggies!

The whole "local" term opens up a can of worms. Looking at Blackwoods "catchment" area, or even Mt Lofty (Aldgate,Stirling,Heathfield, Crafers,Longwood, Bradbury etc) against Ironbanks area, populations and demographics look very different. Who's a local at Thunder park then or Gum ?

Well I know that Uri's signed 5 or 6 blokes this year alone, added to the handful they had last year...

Unfortunately that's life at club level these days. You'll still have your locals but the need for paid players of a high quality is the difference between playing finals and not playing finals. Hanging onto these players then becomes the next hurdle for these clubs. Unfortunately clubs that don't have the large cash flow are always going to struggle. Money changes everything... its crap i agree.
