Eagles jumped us early, getting out to a 26 point lead at quarter time. Our second quarter was very good, we kicked 4 goals to 1 to be within 11 points at half time. We looked great at the start of the third, kicking the first 3 goals and grabbing a 7 point lead. But the Eagles had another level, and we were no match for them from that point. They completely dominated all aspects of the game from that point, scoring 9 of the last 10 goals. Having said that, a series of frees in front of goal in the 3rd quarter did not hurt their cause.

As a Glenelg supporter I am seeing enough from this team to be confident things are heading in the right direction; there's definitely something to work with and an evolving game plan. Hoping for a win at Prospect next week, though North will have gained some belief and confidence from their showing against Centrals today.

matt35 to complain about the umpiring is a bit rich. I thought the Eagles were very poorly treated by the umpires in the first three quarters. A few gratuitous frees in the last quarter when the game was well over was little compensation. At stages during the match the Tigers had received 10-12 more frees than the Eagles. Also, two absolutely clear and undisputable marks to Wundke and Ainger 20 metres out straight in front that were not paid was bewildering. To be more positive I thought the Tigers played a good type of game. For the first two and half quarters it was full of energy and players stuck to the game plan. The manning up and sometimes double teaming of Petrenko was very effective. I just wonder if the disrupted preseason of Nick Stevens reign has had an adverse effect on their fitness.
Full of promise for next season should belt the Roosters next match.

Made up for the two marks you were paid at the northern end in the goal square that both clearly came off other players hands.
Also, it's not how many you get, it's where & when you get them - plus the blatant ones missed.
Final free kick count was 22-19 Glenelg's way.
I'd gladly be in the negative if it meant we got the amount of frees in the forward line that the Eagles were gifted.
Anyways, that wasn't the reason for the result. The Eagles are better drilled, disciplined & skilled than us.
Why Glenelg thought it was a good idea to chip kick sideways in the second qtr from half back when kicking with a 4 goal breeze, beggars belief. When we kicked it long & got it in there quick, the Eagles' back line were under pressure and we looked like scoring. We probably should've been in front at halftime. Turnovers cost us numerous goals, and whilst I can't question our commitment & endeavour at the ball & contest - our skill level constantly let us down. A couple of times it looked like WWT sat back and waited for an error.
The final margin wasn't a true reflection of the game, 3 or 4 goals would've been more indicative.
Alleway's 80+m goal was something to savour.

My understanding at 3/4 time frees were 23 to 14 glenelgs way
Alleways Goal that was a very bad error by the Eagles players .

Just watched Alleway's goal, fair effort. Also highlights the frustrations many have with the 'modern' game.
