No I don't think so, this argument, one as strong and as divisive as it is surrounding the death penalty should not stop, certainly not because someone is sick of hearing about it.

I find that lots of people say, "why are we discussing this when there's so much else going on in the world, such as in Nepal", but don't actually say/do anything about that particular issue themselves - instead they complain about the coverage this situation is getting, further contributing to the discussion, and continue to seek opportunities to express that opinion. In fact, many wouldn't even care about what was going on in Nepal (it would just be another disaster happening to people we know nothing about somewhere else in the world) if it weren't for the fact that it gives them a point to argue in this debate.

I'm not saying that person is you, but I think it's a fair question to ask when someone makes that point.

Agree with you a bit there FC in regards to Nepal and the word innocent. And yes that should have more media coverage than the bali duo but im reality its not controversial enough for the main stream media amd I suspect there on lies the real issue.

To the Indonesian president I stick my middle finger up. It's not just the families of Myu, Andrew and the 7 other people who's lives were impacted last night, but also the beautiful and friendly people of your country who do not deserve to be tainted by the barbaric actions of your government. Here's to hoping the stories and strength of Myu and Andrew leave a legacy in human rights and provide a catalyst for change in international justice. Last night will not end youthful self-indulgence, it won't end corruption, it won't end the trafficking of drugs, but what it has ended is the lives of 9 people and the contributions and influences their existence was having on so many people. The whole argument about sovereignty is ridiculous. South Africa, a sovereign nation, had apartheid. Where would we be if other countries had not expressed criticism and condemnation of what they were doing. State sanctioned murder is wrong. And in this case, execution was completely disproportionate to the crime. If they'd made it to Australia with the heroin, they would likely have gotten a sentence of incarceration for 8-10 years. I can't believe how heartless people are being. People make mistakes. The death penalty can never be excused as it allows a state a means by which it can pick and choose who is fit to live and who isnt. Once the state has that power it can easily be abused for political means or anything else. Look at any country that uses the death penalty from the us to indonesia and you will find such abuses of power.
