Not even close. In the run up to the finals hopefully the penny will drop that the club will not tolerate a year of no September action. Especially after getting a taste last year. All the playing group and coaches should be fully aware of this. Last weeks effort against Port was an improvement but there is still a long way to go. This week against Sturt we will be tested no doubt, but it will be a test of character for many of our up until now underperforming "names." Looking forward to travelling to Unley on Saturday for the game. Can you buy a beer there now or do you still have to be a Sturt member ..? 8)

I was refused a beer from their so called "members tent" in front of the grand stand about 3 or 4 years ago. I actually thought the barman was joking and laughed. Ahhh...no, he was dead serious and directed me to the West End caravan on the Northern side of the ground.
I have always held a bit of a grudge on Sturt over that as it was not just me but other South supporters too.
Since Sturt have been given this secret "so called" money will it be put up again?
Will a cheese and cracker plate be on sale?

Ahhh, so that's what it was. I have always thought your posts towards us good old Blues folk was a bit vitriolic.

Blue and White, I think you have written a very fair assessment of South's situation and what this game means. I agree with MST on this one, South is under enormous pressure to win this. I reckon that will surely bring their best out.
Sturt on the other hand finds itself in a very similar position as Round 5, where we had won 3 on the trot, including a very emotional win over Port, and then went down, sort of unexpectedly to Norwood before we had the bye. We lost two more after that. This time around we won about 5 on the trot including a couple of wins against high placed sides, again a very emotional win against a much respected foe, then lost to the Bays before we had the bye. The unknown quantity this time is that Panther unit that B and W described as not yet having clicked together. I reckon if we go out there and give it our all, as we have done in the 8 games we have won to date, we should come out on top. Should be a beauty in any case.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Looking at the line ups I reckon it's gonna be pretty hard for the Panthers tomorrow. In the middle and at half back Sturt look very strong.

It will however be very interesting to see how Mattner slots back in to the side after not having played at SANFL level for a couple of years. I'd rather see him line up on the wing than at half back. Give him a chance to use his left boot and kick some big 50+ goals...

Losing Thompson isn't neutralised by bringing in Mattner. Thompson has been a standout lately and his departure will be noticed.

Bennett's a wily old bloke but if he lines up on Chambers I might revise my predicted number of goals for our spearhead from 3 to 6...

What's the go with Weatherald. Didn't take him too long to get over his hammy...

Can't wait... still predict 22 point win to the Double Blues...

definetly crunch game, mattner i reckon will start on wing but if he does start half back, will be good for him as he likes to run the ball. chambers will bag at least 5 goals this week. herring back will also be good.

MST.Clarrie and co I obviously dont watch the blues regularly but who are there name players in the middle. Nelson, Deluca , Sheedy and Mattner. South's is not bad either Parry, Kenna, McGrath, Wright, Handby, Sampson, McGlone. I would back Souths to at the very least match your centre if not better. Clearly your forwards are more consistent and generally of higher quality. In what I think will be a mud pit tommorrow with all the rain, the middle will be vital. Don't think tall or forwards will swing the match whoever can get the ball forward the most out of the mud pit. Not sure about the pressure I suppose it is subjective.

Fair enough Rochowi. It goes to show each supporter considers their team to have a heap of 'name' players. McGrath, McGlone and Wright don't strike me as name players (but then I don't see every South game). How about Crane, Darling and Feast? I wouldn't blame you if you've only seen 1 Sturt game this year for not considering the first two as name players. After a quite average game against the Gays though, I reckon Feast (who is surely a 'name' player) will be due for a big one...

Unley has held up ok so far this year. I think you might be slightly surprised at the surface...

Lets hope we can get 2,000 out there. (which may be hard as the game is televised).

Huge game for South.

I'd have Prendergast on Chambers. he's been in really good form the past month.

Archard out is a huge loss. Funny what training with the crows can do to your hammies.

Spot on saintal. Prendergast is strong enough and best option for Chambers. Also with Archard he was in better form fitness last year not with Crows. They must be overtraining them down there with all their injuries. How about Mackay hammie R1 never to be seen again. Clarrie reckons unley oval has held up well so might be more of a free flowing game than I thought. Why not put a blocker like Neagle sitting in front of Chambers. Best thing is win it out of the middle 70% of the time and it wont matter. Fire up panthers

Don't think you beat us out of the middle today Rochowi...

All jokes aside, this was a fantastic win for the club. After going down to the Bays and then having the bye I wasn't sure how Sturt was going to come out today. South had a lot to play for and I thought would have really tested us.

Stand outs were Chambers (obviously!), Gum, Sheedy, Chaplin & Herring. I thought Nelson, Crane, Mattner and Weatherald also played great games. We certainly had no passengers...

South just didn't have an answer for Chambers all day. Prendergast and Bennett were beaten hands down. He was too strong and too smart... Bennett falling on his arse summed up South's performance.

Sturt's pressure didn't let up once across four quarters while many South players showed what seemed a total disinterest in the game, particularly during the second and third quarters.

It was great to see Mattner line up on the wing and I thought he played a real team game rather than trying to play in a manner which benefited himself. There were a few opportunities where he could have blazed at goal but chose to kick to the leading forward.

Let's hope he doesn't get called back to the Crows. His dash would be pretty handy against the chooks...

Next weeks game should be a ripper!

Top effort by a well-coached well managed side, full of quality and now respect from the opposition.

Can't wait for the game of the Round against the Roosters on Sunday at the picturesque Unley ground :) :)
