Whilst the media focussed on Clarke and the NSW test players, there's no doubt that Phillip Hughes death has impacted on Tom Cooper the most.

Ferg with a pair of 80's, just can't convert. Very frustrating, for him as well no doubt...

Be pretty happy making 80s every time, but he's spent most of his career not getting as many runs as he should. Not that much more work in a 120 compared to an 80 for these blokes but the difference to the outcome of the match is huge. He's not quite at the point where his chance for national duties is in the past but he's getting pretty close to being written off. He may well look back at his career and say it was simply not enough runs on the good days that stood between him and a solid test career.

Agree entirely, needs to cash in and make selectors take notice, 80's don't do that

Spot on. Especially the last sentence. Is in career best form, and has been for a couple of seasons now, but lack of huge scores to demand a baggy green and boost that average has given selectors an out to choose someone else. There is probably a few batsman around the country in the same boat in his generation.

Definitely lacking the blokes up the pointy end of the averages but overall it's still a super tough comp. We don't tend to tolerate blokes who average under 40 for long and 50 is still seen as a benchmark. Compare that to England and blokes can have a long career and be seen as highly successful and average low 30s. I reckon having only 6 first class sides has proven a massive benefit to Australian cricket over a long time. End result is a bit of navel gazing over blokes knocking the leather around at 42 instead of 52. Lol.

Besides the verbal abuse, there were other claims of ball tampering. When questioned by the umpires, he responded with the standard big headed "Do you know who I am ". Think he got what he deserved by the sounds of it!

Entire team was warned regarding throwing the ball into the ground to rough it up. A tirade of abuse was heard to becoming from deep backward square. Someone else carried on like a pork chop from inside the ring, this one went on to take the final wicket to win the game. Richardson went without a wicket.

Also 12 more first class teams in England with the talent spread a lot thinner.

I have a Pommy mate I got to know through cricket here down under, a keeper that will play Division 1 County Championship this coming season. Been playing first class cricket since he was 17 and if he was an Aussie would only play 2nd XI here and be an excellent Grade player. If he continues to develop he is touted to be an English Lions (England A) or a back up to the ODI/Test teams.
