2010 - 7th, lost Elim final to Freo away
2011 - 3rd, lost prelim to Coll. by 3 pts
2012 - 2nd, lost GF to Syd. by 10 pts
2013 - Premiers
2014 - Premiers
2015 - ???

So think about the hawks, going back to back after losing to the Swans in 2012 having not bottomed out after their 2008 triumph.

IF they can pull off the unthinkable and win 3 on the trot and their 4th in 8, with a GF loss and a tight prelim loss, does that make them the greatest dynasty in modern football?

I think so, Brisbane did the threepeat then lost the forth, Geelong won 3 in 5 but this Hawthorn side might just shade them both IMO IF they can get the job done next year.

Already got those teams covered, especially given the longevity of the run at the top. Geelong would come back into it if they won next year

Just for the record if GWS win the next 10 flags they'll be top IMHO.

No to the Swans. No to the current Hawks. Not even close - Collingwood has won more games than both those sides during the era you're discussing for those teams. Also, you can't have three dynasties on one era - Sydney, Hawthorn, Geelong.
Neither comes close to Geelong of the current era, nor the Hawthorn of the 70s/80s/90s.
Not winning consecutive flags dents the Geelong claims, for mine.
Brisbane, as good as they were and as brilliant, will always have their concessions hanging over their claims.

I think Melbourne and Hawthorn have the greatest claims, only because my bias precludes me from picking Collingwood (and, I know I'll be fighting a losing argument in picking Collingwood, anyway, because no-one else will want to give the Pies anything).

It will be a tinpot dynasty like the Doggies though. The standard of the league is shit now that the McFootball teams in are. 18 teams is a diluted standard.
